WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Royally Flushed

September 16 at Kansas City

Levels Finished:
We actually tied the game before letting Matt Thornton kill our own team...again.

Short Take:   The Sox continue to blow as they tie the game late against KC only to lose 7-6.

To quote Austin Powers, "I will not lie to you, cards are not my bag, baby." I'm in that same boat as I don't know a lot about cards. I do know, however, that a royal flush is the highest standard poker hand you can get. Lately, every opponent the Sox have faced have given them the royal flush. Or, as the title suggested, you could just say the season has been royally flushed....down the toilet. The latest example was Friday's loss to Kansas City 7-6.

The Sox have lost six in a row with the last two to the Kansas City Royals. Chicago should be congratulating the Detroit Tigers, who clinched the AL Central Friday night, and look at them as an example of how a team should be playing. At 73-77 and mired in third place, this baseball season cannot end fast enough on the south side.

Oh, and there was a game Friday night. Phil Humber pitched for the Sox and wasn't sharp. He gave up five earned over six innings.

The Royals went up 5-2 in the fourth when Mike Moustakas hit a two-run shot off of Humber.

With KC up 6-3 in the seventh, the Sox would mount a comeback. Gordon Beckham would score on a single by A.J. Pierzynski to make it 6-4.

In the top of the eighth, Brent Morel hit a two-run bomb off of Royals reliever Tim Collins to tie the game at 6.

It would all be for naught as Matt Thornton sucked for the third time in a row. Thornton gave up a walk-off double to Eric Hosmer to score Alex Gordon, who'd earlier singled, to win the game for the Royals in the bottom of the ninth.

Even when the Sox have had bad years, I was still sad to see the baseball season end. Besides closing up shop for the season, it also means a change of seasons and waiting over the course of the winter for spring to return with my favorite team. However, this year, it will be a relief when the Sox season ends. When the Sox had some bad teams in the 80's and 90's, at least the team would try to scratch and claw their way into games and try to finish the season strong. This current team has been dead all season. The 2011 team is filled with underachieving dead weight, high salaries, personnel decision problems, coaching problems, a decayed farm system, and a fan base that's tired of it and becoming apathetic. And Ozzie's consistent comments and attitude in the media just create more of a problem and apathy amongst the fans. Professionalism? No, not on the south side. "All In" became anything but in April and never recovered. To overstate the obvious, this team needs major changes...major. It needs to start at the top and bring in smart, professional baseball people to decide on player personnel and management of this team. I've been a Sox fan since going to my first game as a kid in 1981 and this could be my least favorite Sox team in those 30 years. In 2012, please do something to change that.

Ozzio's Game Rant:
"Fight? This team have no fight. I fight harder with my wife as to why my kids ended up losers."
