Stop! No More! We Give Up!

September 4 at Detroit Tigers

Levels Finished:
Out of order. It's just as well, this machine is getting ready to be shut down and taken to the dump anyway. They need room for "Front Office Fighter 2011".

Short Take: Humiliating, embarrassing, pathetic as the Tigers absolutely annihilate the Sox by the score of 18-2. Oh, and this was on national TV, so the Sox really showed how "awesome" they are as they all but fall out out of the race.

If there were any delusions about how the Sox were still in the "race" for the AL Central crown, you can basically go ahead and let it all go now. Going into Detroit needing a sweep, it was instead the Tigers doing the sweeping with two emphatic victories, with an epic Sox collapse in between them. Today, well, the score was 18-2 Tigers. Not much more needs to be said.

This would be a hell of a write-up if this were Tigers Interactive, but since it's not, well, what more can I say? The Sox are a completely wrecked team with no identity and it shows on the field. This Sox team is truly between a rock and a hard place. Changes need to come, and come soon.

Starter Mark Buehrle was...well, look at the score, he sure didn't pitch a gem, now did he? Allowing eight runs - seven earned - on 10 hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 3.1 IP? Yeah, not like Buehrle for sure. Hot prospect pitcher Addison Reed made his debut, and did comparatively well, allowing one run on four hits in 1.2 innings, striking out three. Then came Shane Lindsey...well, no use mincing words, the kid was a mess, and I won't be surprised if we never hear from him again after this season. He gave up seven runs on eight hits in one single inning of work. It was pitiful to watch, and the kid's gotta be a mental wreck now. Josh Kinney gave the pitching performance of the night, pitching a scoreless two-strikeout inning. Will Ohman gave up the final two runs in his inning. Donny Lucy and Alex Rios narrowly avoided making this crapfest a shutout by coming up with RBIs in the 9th inning, but really, all it did was prolong the misery by about 3 batters.

After the Sox took an 8-1 lead in the 5th inning of Saturday's game, the Tigers would go on to score 26 - yes, twenty-freaking-six - unanswered runs before the Sox "broke out" in the 9th inning of this game. But by then, The Tigers made it crystal clear who the class of the division is. Not that that is saying much, mind you...but hey, it's nice to have October baseball be a realistic possibility in your season, even if you will likely get smoked out of it in short order.

Thanks for the memories, Sox. It was fun while it lasted, but now it's time to be real, realize that you're not coming back from this, and just give the kids as much playing time as possible. When the offseason comes, this team needs some serious re-evaluation, from the players to the staff. This has become the most dysfunctional outfit in baseball, and it's embarrassing to have to root for this team when the GM and the hitting coach are going at it in this week's edition of "Intrasquad Fight of the Week." At least we made it into September before our dreams were crushed...wait, is that even a good thing?

Well, if you want to see more of this crap, you're in luck! The Sox go to Minnesota for a Labor Day day-night doubleheader today! Whee! Who knows, if the Sox can sweep and the Tigers get swept...ok, I'm sorry. Old habits die hard.

Ozzio's Game Rant:
I'm not even going to try and put something witty here. This team doesn't deserve it. - MGSF
