TCQ To The Rescue

August 5 at Minnesota

Levels Finished:
Buehrle melted the Twinkies with fireballs and TCQ bombed the barrels.

Short Take:   Buehrle overcomes and Carlos Quentin launches two homers as the Sox eat the Twinkies 5-3.

After a 3-7 home stand, which included six loses in a row, the Sox and the fans have been left to scratch our heads as to how this team can be this bad. We know what happened, so I won't rehash the garbage of the last week. However, at 52-58 and heading to Minnesota, things could go from bad to worse for the Sox.

However, behind Buehrle and Carlos Quentin, the Sox snapped their six-game losing streak by taking out the crappy Twins on Friday night. Buehrle (9-5) allowed three unearned runs and four hits over eight innings while Carlos Quentin supported him with two homers and four RBIs as the Sox won 5-3.

The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, however, trouble was a-brewing for the Sox. Ben Revere opened the inning by hitting a ground ball right through the legs of first baseman Adam Dunn. After Joe Mauer singled, Jason Kubel took Buehrle yard for a three-run homer to make it 3-1 Twins.

The Sox would climb back. In the top of the third, Carlos Quentin hit his first homer of the game, a solo shot to center, to make it 3-2.

We would take the lead for good in the top of the fifth. After Adam Dunn walked, Quentin again came up and took Twins starter Nick Blackburn (7-9) out of the park for his second homer of the game, a two-run shot, to put the Sox up 4-3.

After the Sox added an insurance run in the eighth, Chris Sale closed the door on the Twins in the ninth for his third save of the season.

The good besides Carlos Quentin? Mark Buehrle overcame an Adam Dunn error in the first to retire 22 of the last 24 hitters he faced. The bad? The Sox left the bases loaded twice and were 0-10 with runners in scoring position. That is terrible, especially after getting six walks off of Blackburn. However, at least we finally won.

With Jake Peavy not pitching until Sunday, recently acquired rookie pitcher Zach Stewart (0-1, 4.86 ERA) will make is his Sox debut Saturday, August 6th against crappy Twins pitcher Carl Pavano (6-8, 4.90 ERA). The game starts at 6:10 and will be on WGN.

Ozzio's Game Rant:
"I want to see Thome hit 600th homer and Gardy no play him. I also don't miss playing Yankees as A-Rod beat me twice in underground poker this week."
