WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Like a Bad Penny

June 5 vs Detroit

Levels Finished:
Sox get the lead, but a Tiger grand slam bulldozed the Sox like a fireball to the head.

Short Take:   A grand slam, mental mistakes and a poor offense spell doom for the Sox.

Why can't the Sox beat the Tigers anymore? We used to own Justin Verlander and we should be pounding Brad Penny into the next stone age. Instead, the Sox continued their garbage play. Detroit took the weekend series by winning two of three which included a 7-3 victory over the Sox on Sunday. Overall, the Sox have lost 11 of their last 12 meetings with the Tigers. And instead of mashing Tiger pitcher Brad Penny, Penny moved to 2-0 against the Sox.

The Sox struck first in the bottom of the first. Juan Pierre led off with a single and scored on a Paul Konerko double. Carlos Quentin would make it 2-0 when he scored on an AJ sac fly.

It all fell apart in the top of the fourth for Sox starter Jake Peavy. Austin Jackson opened with a single. Don Kelly then grounded to Paul Konerko who got Jackson at second, but, because of a mental lapse, Alexei Ramirez could not complete the double play. Brennan Boesch and Miguel Cabrera both followed with walks. A Victor Martinez sac fly and an Andy Dirks double would make it 2-2. Then came the big blow. Ryan Raburn, who was in a 6-for-52 slump, and is hot garbage, took Jake Peavy out of the yard for a grand slam to make it 6-2.

Gordon Beckham would homer for the second time in as many games to make it 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth. The Sox would get no closer.

It just wasn't Jake Peavy's day. He wound up going four innings, giving up six earned runs on only three hits, three walks to go with four strikeouts. Peavy fell to 2-1 and would leave after the fourth inning with what's listed as a pulled groin.

Peavy's replacement, Will Ohman, gave up a solo homer to Miguel Cabrera in the sixth to end the game scoring.

This is just the story of the 2011 White Sox. As soon as we get some momentum, mental mistakes, poor offense, and just a lack of overall fundamentals and execution rear their ugly heads. Also, it's June 5th and something's got to give with Adam Dunn and Alex Rios. On Sunday, Dunn went 1-4 but had three strikeouts and is batting an extremely low .179. The crap has to end at some point.

Seattle now comes to town on Monday, June 6th. John Danks (0-8, 5.25 ERA) will face Michael Pineda (6-2, 2.30 ERA). It starts at 7:10 and will be on Comcast SportsNet.

Ozzio's Game Rant:
"I drink with Miguel Carbrera last night. I tell him we let Tigers win if he buy me Venezuelen tequila."
