Leaping Lillibridge!

April 26 at Yankees

Levels Finished:
The Sox didn't have many barrels to dodge, but they overcame the two fireballs the Yankees hit with a fireball of their own.

Short Take:   Floyd pitches a gem, Lillibridge's catches save game

The White Sox did something no one else has done this short season: they beat the Yankees two games in a row. Yes, the White Sox won again, giving the Yankees their first losing streak of the season.

Behind the stellar pitching of Gavin Floyd, the Sox beat the Yankees 3-2. Floyd almost got into trouble in the first. Curtis Granderson hit a ball hard to center field, but Alex Rios was there to rob him of a home run and a hit. In the second, Floyd wasn't as lucky. Robinson Cano hit his fifth homer of the season to right field.

The Sox got on the board in the fifth. Rios singled to center, and during Gordon Beckham's at-bat, he stole second. Beckham singled to right, scoring Rios and moving to second on the throw. Unfortunately that's all the Sox could do that inning.

Floyd continued his dominant pitching in the bottom of the fifth, but he did allow a solo home run to Brett Gardner. Through five innings, Floyd only allowed two hits, both solo homers.

The Sox got on the board again in the eighth. After Alexei Ramirez struck out on a foul tip, Carlos Quentin was hit by a pitch. Not surprising since he IS Carlos Quentin. Ozzie sent in Brent Lillibridge to pinch run for Quentin. Paul Konerko came up to bat and hit his sixth home run of the season, giving the Sox a 3-2 lead.

Lillibridge stayed in the game as the right fielder. Remember this. It's important later.

Gavin Floyd stayed in the game for 8+ innings. Ozzie pulled him in the top of the ninth after giving up a lead-off single to Derek Jeter. Matt Thornton came on in relief. Granderson hit a sac bunt to move Jeter to second. Thornton walked Mark Teixeira, and Ozzie pulled him in favor of Sergio Santos.

One out. Runners at first and second. Alex Rodriguez at the plate. Hard hit ball to right. This looks like a game-tying or game-winning double. But Lillibridge...LILLIBRIDGE!!!...makes an amazing catch to rob A-Rod of a hit.

Two out. Runners at first and second. Cano at the plate. Another hard hit ball to right. This looks like it will fall for a hit, probably a game-tying hit. But Lillibridge...LILLIBRIDGE!!!...makes a diving catch for the final out. Sox win 3-2.

The Sox face the Yankees again tomorrow. Mark Buehrle faces none other than Bartolo Colon. Let's extend that losing streak to three games for the Yankees.
