WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Frozen in Florida

April 18 at Tampa Bay

We suck

Short Take:  Sox bats stay lifeless in 5-0 loss to Rays

On a morning that most of Chicago woke up to an unusual mid-April snowfall, the White Sox apperently took civic pride to the max, keeping their bats on ice, getting blanked 5-0 in a combined shutout by David Price and Joel Peralta, to drop their 5th straight.

Not too much to talk about tonight.  Slumping Adam Dunn sat in lieu of a right-handed heavy lineup against the lefty Price but the Rays' young ace had little to no problem mowing down the Sox lineup.  The highlight of the night for the Sox offense came in the first when Carlos Quentin reached third base on a Paul Konerko single, however, Alex Rios struck out to end the threat.  The Sox only put two more runners in scoring position all night, made nothing of the opportunities and looked lost at the plate as Price struck out 9 and allowed only 4 hits in 8 innings.

Edwin Jackson pitched OK, but certainly not great, and certainly not well enough to win when your offense is struggling.  The Rays jumped to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning on a Felipe Lopez RBI single and 2-run homer by Ben Zobrist.  The Rays tacked on another run on Lopez's RBI double in the 5th and in the 8th, when Lopez homered off Matt Thornton.  Even though Thornton allowed 1 run in his lone inning of work, he also struck out 2 and considering the Sox were already flatlining by the time he entered the game, it was probably his most effective outing of the year.  So that's good.  I guess.

Thankfully this garbagefest started early so there's plenty of time to strap it down for tonight's Bulls game.  Either ways, the Sox and Rays mix it up in Game 2 of this 4-game series tomorrow at Tropicana Field.  John Danks will start for the Sox against James Shields.  First pitch is 5:40 PM Central time and the game will be broadcast on WCIU.

Dear Losers who live in Florida, the cowbells were ****ing stupid 3 years ago.  What is wrong with folks?
