Danks Beats the Sawx

September 4 (Game 1) at Boston

Sergio is starting to get his groove back, while Juan draws the collar

Short Take:  Johnny Danks goes seven strong innings and the Good Guys take advantage of some clutch hitting to beat Boston 3-1 and extend the winning streak to four games.

The Sox and Carmines hooked up at 12:05 on Saturday afternoon to make up Friday night’s cancelled game due to Hurricane Earl. The Sox were in desperate need of a good outing by John Danks as they tried to keep pace with the division leading Twins. Danks delivered, going seven strong innings and only allowing one run. The Sox bats came alive in the clutch against Cy Young candidate Clay Buchholz, giving the Good Guys a nice victory on the road and extending their winning streak to four games.

The White Sox scored early off Buchholz. In the 2nd inning, after back-to-back singles by Paulie and Manny, AJ Pierzynski grounded into a double play. Konerko scored on the play, and AJ of course wasn’t credited with an RBI. However, in the 4th, Pierzynski knocked Konerko in again, this time after Paulie led off with a double to right field and moved to third on a Manny groundout. AJ earned an rbi this time, and the Sox had a 2-0 lead.

The Red Sox scored their only run of the game in the 5th when Marco Scutaro singled in Bill Hall from second base. John Danks, otherwise, was solid. Johnny went seven innings, scattering six hits, while striking out five. The Sox tacked on another run for some insurance in the 7th when Gordon Beckham doubled in Alexei Ramirez. Sergio Santos pitched a scoreless 8th, and Bobby Jenks came in to shut down the BoSox in the 9th for his 26th save of the season. Credit Danks with the victory (13-9), and Buchholz gets the loss (15-6).

TBGR Diary:
The Sox temporarily move to 3.5 games behind the Twins, with another game left to play tonight.
