No Manny, No Problem!

August 31 @ Cleveland Indians

Edwin Jackson
Carlos Quentin

Edwin pitched his heart out, while TCQ did nothing with his bat and also looked shaky defensively.

Short Take:Manny joins the team in Cleveland, but he wasn't needed in this Sox victory.

It wouldn't be interesting if we weren't greeted to our new waiver acquisition without Manny being Manny. He came late enough to keep him out of the starting lineup and wouldn't speak in English to Chicago reporters. That wasn't enough to derail the Palehose from their goal of securing a series victory over Cleveland with 1 game to go tomorrow. Your final score: Chicago 4, Cleveland 3.

For the first six frames, Edwin Jackson and his counterpart Justin Masterson limited the amount of runners to reach base, allowing only a few, rarely feeling threatened...Until just after the 7th Inning Stretch, when Shelley Duncan lead off with a homer to give Cleveland a quick lead by a run. Would the lead last? The Sox bats said, "Nahhhh!" With 1 out in the next frame, Mark Teahen was batted in by last night's hero Brent Lillibridge. Tied up at a run a piece, and Manny Ramirez on deck, AJ Pierzynski hit one a long way to deep right center in the top of the last with two runners already on. Yes, a 3-run homer it was! Ozzie quickly sat Manny (probably to save him for tomorrow), keeping the batting order the same.

Things got a bit interesting again in tonight's bottom of the 9th, as Jackson was unable to get the complete game, giving up a couple of runs. Ozzie pulled him in favor of Bobby Jenks, who recorded the final out after allowing the first runner he saw to reach safely. Sox fans' blood pressures I'm sure were rather high. Mine sure was, thinking back to last night's game. But, Cleveland fortunately couldn't get their third needed run. Freddy Garcia goes for the sweep tomorrow morning. Different time (11:05 am), same place, same channel.

TBGR Diary:
I guess we can't complain about wins any way they come; but, it would be nice to have a few games in a row without 9th inning drama.
