The (Bleeping) White Sox lose again

August 18 at Minnesota

Juan Pierre
Gavin Floyd

The leadoff man reached base four times out of five tonight. Can't say he didn't do his job. Floyd? Well, seven runs allowed on 10 hits isn't going to cut it. Choke.

Short Take: Ozzie Guillen curses out Sox fans (again), while his team crumbles like a house of cards in Minnesota (again).

Just what we were all in the mood for ... another Ozzie Guillen tirade! Hooray! After former Sox slugger Jim Thome stuffed it up Ozzie's rear end with a walk-off shot in the bottom of the 10th Tuesday night, the Sox manager was questioned about his decision to run Thome off the team this past offseason and responded thusly:

"I have my head on my shoulders, and I think we did the right thing with what we did in spring training. If people don't like it, good. They don't like it, they don't have to watch the (bleeping) White Sox." He also said, "If those people don't like that, (bleep) them." Great.

Gotta admit, I didn't want to watch the "bleeping White Sox" on Wednesday. I already knew they were going to lose, and lose they did. Minnesota wins 7-6 to take a five-game lead in the AL Central Division race.

Just eight days ago, the Sox were tied for first. That feels like a lifetime ago. Since then, the Sox have lost six out of eight. Overall, the South Siders have lost nine out of 12. Six of the nine losses have been by one run, three of them have been walk-off losses. Are we having fun yet?

As for the gory details from Wednesday night, Gavin Floyd (8-10) had a 5-3 lead after the Sox scored two runs in the top of the fifth. He couldn't hold it. He gave up a solo home run to Joe Mauer in the bottom of the fifth and coughed up three more runs in the sixth.

The Sox found themselves trailing 7-5 going into the ninth. Gordon Beckham doubled with one out and scored on a single by Juan Pierre to make it 7-6. Pierre, representing the tying run, advanced to second on a groundout by Alexei Ramirez. However, he was stranded when Alex Rios grounded out to first base to end the game.

Give Pierre credit. He showed up tonight: 4 for 5 with two stolen bases, plus a nice catch in left field. Unfortunately, despite being on base all night long, Pierre did not score a single run in this game. Andruw Jones hit a three-run homer in the second inning, but let's face it, there were very few highlights for the White Sox from the sixth inning on.

The Sox will try to salvage the finale of this three-game set Thursday night. It's up to Mark Buehrle (11-9, 4.05 ERA) to save the day. His mound opponent is Minnesota ace Carl Pavano (15-7, 3.27 ERA). The game begins at 7:10. If you can stomach any more of this crap, you can watch on Comcast SportsNet. If you decide not to watch the bleeping White Sox, then I don't bleeping blame you.

TBGR Diary:
Still waiting to see some sign that the White Sox are as sick of losing to the Twins as I am. Minnesota hasn't won a playoff game in six years. Let's not kid ourselves. The Twins aren't *this* good. This is bad White Sox baseball we are witnessing right now.
