The Dallas Braden Show

July 31st against the Oakland Athletics

Andruw Jones
John Danks

Andruw was the sum run total, preserving the team's dignity against Braden. Danks couldn't seem to keep the A's from hitting.

Short Take:Dallas Braden looked good in a complete game and John Danks did not, as the A's beat the Sox 6-2.

Dallas Braden has several claims to fame. You might have heard about that perfect game he threw on May 9th. Or you might have heard about the trespassing squabble he had with Alex Rodriguez earlier in the season when A-Rod stepped on the pitcher's mound on his way back to first base. Interesting footnotes, all, but none as significant as snapping the White Sox' latest winning streak, as the Athletics beat the Sox 6-2.

Gotta give it to Braden. He pitched a complete game and was in control. The only runs he allowed the Sox to score were the two that Andruw Jones drove in with his seventh-inning homer. In total the Sox had eight hits that were otherwise scattered. Today was a day they just got beat.

John Danks was on the flip side of Braden's skill. Danks really only had one bad inning, the second, but that was all the A's really needed. Danks gave up singles to Kevin Kouzmanoff, Adam Rosales, and Rajai Davis, resulting in the first run. Then he walked Mark Ellis and gave up a single to Matt Carson, scoring another. A later two-out single to Daric Barton drove in two more, and poof! It's 4-0 for the A's in the second.

The A's scored again in the third on Kouzmanoff's 10th home run of the year, and yet again in the eighth as Kouzmanoff doubled and was driven in on a single by Davis.

Not a good day for our heroes, made worse by the Twins' annoying insistence on carrying on their own winning streak to bring them only a 1/2 game behind the Sox in the Central Division. Clearly another couple of 11-game streaks is called for -- a winning one for the Sox, of course, but also a corresponding losing streak for the Twins. Let's knock off the pesky A's on Sunday and get another streak started. Tally ho, boys!

TBGR Diary:
This is a game the other team simply won. But it's bad timing as the Twins refuse to go away and keep nipping, piranha-like, at the Sox' heels.
