Dazzling Danks

July 20 @ Seattle Mariners

John Danks, TCM
AJ Pierzynski

Danks was dealing, while TCM accounted for half of our runs. Meanwhile, AJ couldn't reach base, even striking out twice.

Short Take:Danks delivered a dazzling performance in Seattle, as our Sox bested the M's 4-0.

Dazzling. That's been what John Danks has been for our pitching staff. Every time he comes to the mound, Sox fans can expect his best effort and a chance at a win. It was no different on this Tuesday night affair in Seattle, as Danks and our Sox bested the M's at Safeco 4-0.

Danks recorded half of his strikeouts in the first three innings and was clearly in command the whole way through. Only allowing one hit, he came out of the opening third of the game unscathed and finally got some run support in the middle third of the game. In the 4th and 5th, our Sox dented the scorecard. Alex Rios walked to lead off the 4th inning, advanced to third on a 2-bagger by Paul Konerko, and scored on a groundout by Mark Kotsay. The next frame saw TCM getting an infield single, advancing on a groundout by Bacon, scoring on a double by Juan Pierre, who scored on a single by Rios.

A 3-0 lead is usually safe against a paltry offense like the one the M's have. Danks made sure the lead held up until he was relieved with 2 outs in the 8th. JJ Putz retired Chone Figgins to end the frame. In the 9th, TCM added an extra run with a solo blast, while Bobby Jenks retired the M's in order in the home half. Gavin Floyd will look to complete the second sweep of the season against the M's in a Wednesday night tilt with Felix Hernandez. Same time, same place, different channel (CSN).

TBGR Diary:
The Sox built up their biggest divisional lead since 2008 (3.5 games). We all know how that division race turned out!
