WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Minnesota is an Annoying Place

July 17th against the Minnesota Twins

Immunity:
Mark Buehrle
Exiled:
Carlos Quentin

Mark had one bad inning, but held them to three runs and looked strong the rest of the game. Carlos couldn't get the ball launched anywhere. . .wake up, big guy!

Short Take:Mark Buehrle had one bad inning, but that was enough as the Twins beat the Sox 3-2.

The Twins are not just annoying, they're simply distateful. Yes, they're a good team, and yes, they execute when they need to, and yes, they do very well competing in a smaller market. But they're like the annoying kid in the class who always has the right answer and knows it. They did it again tonight, beating the White Sox 3-2.

Carl Pavano was the complete-game winner for Marge Gunderson's Boys tonight. Let's use him as Exhibit A to illustrate why the North Woods Nuisance Team is so distasteful. Here's a guy who was a castoff from the Yankees, taking $40 million of Steinbrenner's money after going 9-8 over three years. Treated for an injury, he goes to Cleveland for a while and is then traded to the Ya-Hey-Dere bunch for a minor-league PTBNL. Now that he's in Minniehaha, he's 10-6 and looks like Cy Young to the White Sox.

What is going on up there?

Enough ranting -- back to the game. Mark Buehrle was the stuckee for the Sox tonight, looking like the first-strike machine we know, but in the second inning he seemed to be throwing batting practice. Michael Cuddyer led off with a charmed-life double that bounced on the right-field foul line and went into the stands. Delmon Young follows with a single, scoring Cuddyer. Jason Kubel then tripled (!), scoring Young. Danny Valencia doubled, allowing Kubel to walk home. Three runs on ka-booming hits and there are no outs! Piranhas! Mark was able to induce three ground balls to end the inning, but it's frustrating when these guys have their way with the Sox.

The Sox did score in the first when Alex Rios hit a two-out double and was singled home by Paul Konerko. But that was all the scoring the Sox could do until a Konerko solo shot in the fourth. Everybody else seemed to be hitting weak ground balls. A threat was made in the ninth when the Sox got a runner to third with one out, but a strikeout by Konerko and a grounder by Quentin wrapped it up.

The central attraction at the game among the Lake Wobegon crowd seemed to be Pavano's mustache. It is a remarkable feature, making him look a little like Groucho Marx while he tries to look like Tom Selleck. Either way it's annoying. Just like the rest of that team.

WSI's
TBGR Diary:
As I watched those twits celebrate Pavano's mustache, I kept thinking that Buehrle's neatly-trimmed beard doesn't get the same respect.

Sox Clubhouse "Pick to Click" Winner

Paul Konerko

Took care of all the team's RBIs tonight. Somebody remind the clubhouse that there are eight other guys who are allowed to get RBIs.
