Them Crooked Vultures

June 22 vs. Atlanta Braves

Carlos Quentin
Gordon Beckham

Quentin's home run accounted for the difference, while Beckham couldn't do anything with his bat.

Short Take:Sox fans love crooked numbers, and our Sox provided them with 2 of them en route to a 9-6 win at home against Atlanta.

After John Danks spotted the Atlanta Braves three quick runs in the first pair of frames, our Sox broke out the bats, tacking on nine runs total in three innings. The past week has been a total Mind Eraser (No Chaser) from the early season struggles, as our Palehose now have won seven in a row. The final---Chicago: 9, Atlanta: 6.

Down 3-0, the Palehose put a huge crooked number on the board in the second without a homer. With one out and two on (Paulie Walnuts and THE Carlos Quentin), AJ "10/5" Pierzynski singled both of them in. He advanced on a single by The Cuban Missile, and then both of them moved over when Juan Pierre was hit by a pitch. Omar "AARP" Vizquel knocked in both AJ and TCM, and then Alex Rios capped things off with an RBI infield single, which got in Pierre!

The Sox fortunately added to their 5-0 lead the next couple of frames. With Mark Kotsay already on in the third, AJ singled and advanced to second when Kotsay was caught stealing. Kotsay shouldn't have even tried on that steal, as he was out by a mile! Fortunately, TCM knocked in AJ with a clutch two-out hit The next frame, TCQ broke the Sox' home run drought (that lasted over a week), hitting a 3-run bomb to left, knocking in Rios and Konerko in the process.

Tony Pena and Scott Linebrink allowed the Braves to double their run total, but our Sox never relinquished their lead. The Sox look to improve on their major league-best 11-2 interleague record tomorrow. Tim Hudson takes on Mr. Perfect...Same time, same place, same channel.

TBGR Diary:
Six of our nine runs came with two out...What a way to display situational hitting!
