White Sox Win at Wrigley

June 11 at Wrigley

Short Take:  The Good Guys take over the Urinal and win their third in a row.

On a day that Chicago celebrated the Blackhawks Stanley Cup Championship with a victory parade, the White Sox batters paraded around the bases at Wrigley in destroying their National League counterparts by a score of 10-5.

Jake Peavy looked solid on the mound for the Sox, earning his 100th career victory. He held the Cubs to just two runs through seven innings pitched, racking up five strikeouts while scattering six hits. Peavy’s only real mistake of the afternoon was giving up a two-run homer to Alfonso Soriano in the 2nd inning to allow the Cubs to tie the game after the Sox took an early lead.

The Sox offense was on fire on this sweltering 90-degree day. Paul Konerko’s huge two-run double in the 4th confirmed his dominance at the Urinal, giving the lead back to the Sox at 4-2. AJ was 4-for-5 with three rbi‘s, including a homer in the seventh. Alex Rios and Carlos Quentin also hit homers, both in the 8th. Quentin’s solo homer came as a pinch-hitter for Jake Peavy. Alex Rios’ bomb scored The Cuban Missile.

With a 10-2 lead, Peavy’s services were no longer needed as the game moved to the bottom of the 8th. Unfortunately, the Sox bullpen looked less than stellar. Tony Pena gave up three runs, with some help by a Jayson Nix error at third and Randy Williams allowing an inherited runner to score. In the 9th, Scott Linebrink made a mess of his mop-up duty with two walks, and Bobby Jenks was called in to shut the door, just shy of a save-opportunity.

TBGR Diary:
The win for the Sox goes to Jake Peavy, now 5-5 on the year. More importantly, the Sox climb to within six games of .500. Keep it going. A win on Saturday would be their first four-game winning streak of the year. Go Sox!
