Another Game, Another Loss

May 20 vs. Los Angeles Angels

Gordon Beckham
Jake Peavy

Time will tell if he's out of his slump, and although he only went 1-for-4, Beckham did bat in three of the five runs. With this offense, allowing six runs isn't gonna cut it, Peavy.

Short Take:   Eighth-inning rally falls short as Sox lose to Angels

As Sox fans have come to expect, the White Sox lost to the Angels tonight 6-5, despite a four-run rally in the eighth inning. Jake Peavy picked up the loss, as the Sox fall to 16-24 on the season.

Peavy didn't look terribly sharp today, giving up six runs on eight hits and two walks. The Angels scored two runs in the first, two in the third, and two in the sixth. In past outings, Peavy hasn't looked spectacular in the first inning, and as evidenced by the two runs scored in the first, tonight was no different. When it seemed like Peavy settled down, he proceeded to come back and give up more runs.

The offense was lackluster again for most of the game. The Sox got on the board in the fifth. Alexei Ramirez singled on a bunt to third and advanced to third on an error by Kevin Frandsen. He scored on a Gordon Beckham ground out. The eighth was much more interesting. After Paul Konerko struck out and Mark Kotsay flied out, the offense turned on a little bit. Carlos Quentin singled, Mark Teahen walked, and Alexei Ramirez singled, all with two outs. Beckham came up, and I will admit that I had little to no faith that he would get a hit. Luckily I was wrong, as he singled to center, scoring Quentin and Teahen. After a pitching change, Juan Pierre singled, loading the bases for AJ Pierzynski. Again, I had little faith he'd get a hit. Pierzynski hit a ground rule double. Had the ball not jumped the fence, Pierre would have scored to tie the game at six, and the Sox might have pulled out a win. Instead, Andruw Jones flied out, and the Sox failed to score in the ninth.

Interleague play starts tomorrow night, as the Florida Marlins come to US Cellular Field. Mark Buehrle faces Ricky Nolasco at 7:10pm on WCIU. Maybe interleague play will jumpstart the offense.

TBGR Diary:
I feel like I'm a glutton for punishment since I keep watching these games, pretending something good is gonna happen. Being delusional is not good for a person, and I'm certainly delusional when I tell myself, "Oh they'll turn it around soon." Then they have innings like the eighth, and I get excited because maybe they'll win. And then I come back to Earth when they lose like I have come to expect.

AJ Pierzynski

2-for-5 with 2 RBIs that could have been three if not for the ground-rule double.
