A Win on the Road

April 29 at Texas

Gordon Beckham
Bobby Jenks

Beckham went 2-for-4 and attempted to steal a base. Jenks made the bottom of the ninth a little uncomfortable, allowing two runs on three hits.

Short Take:   Sox snap six- game road losing streak in Texas

The White Sox avoided the sweep in Arlington, beating the Texas Rangers 7-5. Gavin Floyd notched his first win, and Paul Konerko led the offense with two home runs.

Floyd pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, but only one run was earned The two unearned runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the third. Joaquin Arias reached on Mark Teahen's fourth error of the season, sending Julio Borbon home. Arias scored on Josh Hamilton's double to center field. The only earned run Floyd allowed was a home run to Justin Smoak.

Matt Thornton came on in the eighth, allowing one hit and striking out one, continuing his excellent start to the season. Bobby Jenks came on for the save, but it wasn't a very smooth save, allowing two runs. However, the Sox held on for the win.

The offense started to look a bit better today. On a Paul Konerko sac fly, Gordon Beckham scored the first Sox run in the top of the fourth. Most of the scoring came in the top of the seventh. AJ Pierzynski singled to right, bringing in Alex Rios. With two outs, Darren O'Day walked Gordon Beckham to load the bases. Dustin Nippert came on to replace O'Day, and threw a wild pitch. Mark Kotsay scored, and on a throwing error by Rangers catcher Max Ramirez, Pierzynski also came across to score. Konerko batted in the remaining three runs on two homers. In the eighth, he hit a solo shot to left field, and in the ninth, he hit a two-run shot to right center, scoring Andruw Jones.

The White Sox travel to New York to face the Yankees this weekend. Freddy Garcia looks for his first win of the season against Andy Pettitte. You can find the game on WCIU at 6:05pm.

TBGR Diary:
Bobby Jenks, please stop making me so nervous. And Juan Pierre, I would really like you to get on base. Isn't that the reason we got you? So you could get on base and steal them?
