WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

The Night of the Silent Bat

April 13 @ Toronto Blue Jays

Short Take:Nobody but Alex Rios could muster a hit as Ricky Romero dominated our Palehose.

After finally breaking their 10-game hex at Rogers Centre in Toronto, the Palehose were on a mission to get on a modest 3-game winning streak. It all looked good on paper with Gavin Floyd towing the rubber against no-name Ricky Romero. Unfortunately, what's good on paper isn't always what happens in a game. The Jays doubled up our Sox 4-2.

The first couple of innings went unblemished. Neither team produced much of a threat; however, Floyd got himself into a little bind in the bottom of the 3rd. With one gone, he allowed Alex Gonzalez to reach on a single to center. After retiring the next batter, the next pair recorded run-producing hits. Vernon Wells tripled in Gonzalez to the warning track, while Lyle Overbay followed with a single scoring Wells.

Though no more damage was done in that frame, #34 got himself into another bind in the middle frame. Adam Lind singled to start things off. Fortunately, Gavin got the next two guys out; but, then came more two-out damage. After John Buck's ground rule double moved Overbay (who reached on a fielder's choice that forced Lind out) over to third base, Edwin Encarnacion doubled Toronto's lead with a double.

Romero proved to be unhittable until the 8th inning. After AJ Pierzynski was hit by a pitch, Alex Rios delivered a big middle finger to all of the boo birds in Toronto, cutting the Jays' lead in half with a two-run homer--the only hit our Sox would muster all night. Tonight truly was the night of the silent bat.

Here's hoping that the next game will produce different results. John Danks takes the mound against Brandon Morrow. Same time, same place, different channel (WCIU).

TBGR Diary:
Perhaps the Sox should see if it is possible to have all games played at Rogers Centre canceled.
