White Sox Crown the Royals

May 29 at Kansas City

KW's Daily Special:
Barbequed Royal Pork
A KC Masterpiece, to the bone

Short Take:  Clayton Richard continues to impress while the Sox offense keeps thumping along.

Much like the barbeque at Kauffman Stadium, the Sox bats came out smoking early on Friday night, and they didn’t cool off until a six-run sixth inning put them ahead by eleven runs. With Clayton Richard on the mound to keep the Royals in check, the Pale Hose were victorious by a final score of 11-2. The victory, coupled with a Tigers loss, moves the Sox to within four games of 1st place in the AL Central.

Richard pitched phenomenal baseball for seven innings, giving up a walk and scattering six hits while striking out seven. His only hiccup occurred in the bottom of the sixth when Billy Butler ruined the shutout by tagging him for a two-run homer to put the Royals on the board. That’s all they would score for the night, though, as Octavio Dotel and Jimmy Gobble wrapped up Richard’s masterpiece in the 8th and 9th. With the outing, Richard dropped his ERA to 3.38 on the year and ran his record to 2-0.

The White Sox drew blood in the first on Jermaine Dye’s 13th homer of the season, a solo shot off Brian Bannister. In the top of the 2nd, the Sox tacked on three more runs as Josh Fields doubled home Konerko and AJ and later scored on a single by Alexei Ramirez. In the fifth, the Sox added one more run as Pauly drove in Dye with a sacrifice fly, giving the Good Guys a 5-0 lead.

The floodgates really opened in the top of the sixth. Chris Getz singled home Brian Anderson after a leadoff double (6-0 Sox). After Sidney Ponson came on in relief, Fields, Podsednik and Alexei hit three straight singles to give the Sox an 8-0 lead. Pods scored on a JD fielder’s choice ground out (9-0 Sox). After a walk to Thome, Konerko drove in Alexei (10-0 Sox). AJ finished off the carnage with a double off reliever and Sox-whipping boy Kyle Farnsworth, scoring Thome, to give the Sox an 11-0 lead.

The Sox have now won seven of their last ten games. Most importantly, a win tomorrow will cinch their fourth straight series victory. Keep the momentum going! Tomorrow’s game time is 6:10, with Mark Buehrle locking horns against Gil Meche. Let’s get the win tomorrow and then go after Greinke, paws-up, on Sunday for the sweep. Go Sox!
