Sox Get Their Nix Fix

May 26 @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

KW's Daily Special:
Nix Mix
Like Chex Mix, only better!

Short Take:Jayson Nix helps assure our Palehose of their third series win in a row, doubling his season home run total in the process.

In his last start, Bartolo Colon only threw a couple of innings in losing the most lopsided game at home in franchise history. With the help of the defense behind him, Colon minimized the offensive production of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, lasting 6.2 innings. It wasn't as much of a thriller as last night's two-touchdown victory; however, tonight's game is just as meaningful in the standings. Our beloved Palehose doubled up the Halos 4-2.

It's always nice when guys you don't hear from very much come through with a productive outing. Tonight, Jayson Nix was seeing the ball very well. He left the park twice and hit .500 for the night. Nix seemed to have a sense of confidence in what he was doing against Halo ace Joe Saunders. Maybe tonight's game can be the start of something good for our substitute 2nd baseman.

Absolutely nothing happened offensively until the top of the 5th inning, when Nix knocked out the first of his long balls deep to left field. Saunders threw him a cookie, and Nix made him pay. The next frame, should have been much more productive; but, we came out with only a single run. With the bases juiced (TCM, JD, and Big Jim), Konerko laced a single into medium right field, scoring TCM. BA and Josh Fields unfortunately left the bases loaded. 2/3 of the way through this game, our Sox had a decent 2-0 lead.

In the 7th, Nix and Bobby Abreu traded lead-off round-trippers. What is amazing is that Abreu waited until May 26th to hit his first home run of the season. This could be a sign that he was juicing it all along until this season and decided to stop so he doesn't get caught.

The 3-1 lead lasted until the 9th, when our Sox and the Halos traded runs to complete the scoring. And so, for the third straight series, our Sox have guaranteed themselves of a series win. Can they now get over the hump and accomplish their first sweep of the season? We'll have to wait until tomorrow night to find out. After watching Game 5 of the NHL Western Conference Finals on Versus (Let's Go Hawks!), tune in to see Gavin Floyd hopefully pick up where he left off (8 shutout innings last Friday night) against Jered Weaver. Same time, same place, different channel (CSN).

Critic's Corner:
Give this one three stars: One for Nix's stick, one for a solid pitching performance by Colon, and one for the great defensive performance.
