WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Finally, a little love for Danks

April 22 at Baltimore Orioles

KW's Daily Special:
The Sox obviously ate theirs before taking the field

Short Take: The Sox hitters pound out 12 hits to support another outstanding performance by John Danks

For most of his White Sox career, John Danks has suffered from an extreme case of lack of run support. Hopefully, his luck is starting to change as the Sox hitters backed him up nicely in a resounding 8-2 rout of Baltimore.

The Orioles trotted out perhaps their best pitcher in right-hander Jeremy Guthrie. Unfortunately for Mr. Guthrie, he is not a triple-A callup and the Sox have seen him before. The South Siders roughed up Guthrie early, scoring four runs in the first three innings. Carlos Quentin had an RBI single in the first. Chris Getz added an RBI single in the second, and Josh Fields followed with an RBI double. Jim Thome blasted his fourth homer of the season in the third to give the Sox a quick 4-0 lead.

That was more than enough for Danks, who was stingy in limiting Baltimore to a run on just four hits over seven innings. The lefty improved his record to 2-0 and saw his ERA drop to an impressive 0.95.

Just for good measure, the Sox poured it on against the Baltimore bullpen in the late innings. Fields ripped his first homer of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh. Brian Anderson had an RBI single in the eighth, and Getz capped off the evening with a sac fly.

The victory assures the Sox of a winning road trip. They are now 5-3 on this rain-abbreviated nine-game swing, with one more game in Baltimore left on Thursday night. Bartolo Colon will be on the mound for our Sox. He will be opposed by the Orioles' Adam Eaton.

Critic's Corner:
Five-star performance tonight. The Sox dominated this game.
