Sox split four month doubleheader

April 28 vs. Baltimore Orioles at Baltimore and also August 25 at Baltimore Orioles

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
KW lost the cards somehow

Short Take:   Sox lose home game on road and then win road game on road, the Long Road

Well, it took four months but the Sox finally finished up their extra innings game from April 28. 'Twas a cold, rainy day that saw the game start delayed by rain and a second rain delay during play. Five hours later and the contest was not decided. A Uribe homer in the bottom of the 11th kept the Sox dreams alive but the rain crushed their dreams. It was Baltimore's only visit to Chicago that year so the League decides that the game should be completed when the Sox visit Baltimore in late August. And that is what happened as the legends foretold. The Universe was on its head as the Sox played the role of the home team in Baltimore as the suspended game was played before that evening's regularily scheduled affair. It took until the 14th before the Orioles got on the board. Ozzie tried to outsmart himself with smallball being played by players who shouldn't play small ball. Result? A loss. 4-3 is the final. Let us never speak of it again.

The night game saw Richard getting the start for the Sox and Waters getting the nod for the Orioles. Sox jump on the board first when Dye reaches first safely on a throwing error. Ramirez crosses the plate with two outs and the Sox take a 1-0 lead. Both sides went down in order until the bottom of the third when Payton draws a walk. Payton advances to second on a balk but a couple groundouts strands him there. The Sox get some baserunners in the fourth. A couple walks, a Quentin stolen base and a Griffey double gives the Sox a 2-0 advantage. The 4th was rough for Richard; five hits, three runs and Baltimore takes the lead. The Sox get in on the balk game in the fifth. Ramirez doubles, AJ grounds him to third and a balk brings him home. Tie game.

The Sox grab the lead in the sixth on Thome's 535th career blast. Thome's home run gives him sole possesion of 15th place on the all time list and also the most homers by a player named Jim, James, Jimmie, Jimmy, Jimbo, Jimboreno, etc. Congrats! Richard would finish the sixth and it would be his last. Not a bad line overall: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 4 K. It would be blanks by Dotel and Thornton (combine for two hits and two strikeouts) and Jenks comes on for the save. Sox win, 4-3!
