WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Bullpen clowns it, as per usual

August 11 vs. Boston Red Sox

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
A simpler game from a simpler time. Also, KW sucks at poker.

Short Take:   At least the Olympics are on.

So what's the deal here, Sox? Do you want to go to the postseason or not. Good grief. Another excellent performance from Danks wasted, another weak performance from the offense, another crappy bullpen performance, another loss. Danks was perfect through 5 2/3 before hitting Ellsbury. The no hitter was still intact through 6 1/3 before Youkillis singled to center. It would be Danks' roughest inning with two walks and a double by JD Drew gave the Red Sox their first runs as well as the lead. Newly aquired Horacio Ramirez relieved Danks to start the 8th and had a decent outing. He gave up a single to Ellsbury and got Crisp on a sac bunt. Welcome to the Sox, guy. Russell relieved Ramirez and got two outs to strand Ellsbury at second. Looked like the Sox were still in this... or were they?

Beckett was dominating the Sox hitters all night. He puts down the first two batters in the 8th before hitting Quentin. All for naught as Dye flies out to end the inning. It would be Beckett's last inning. The 9th was not kind to the Sox bullpen. Russell gives up a walk and two singles to load the bases. Thornton comes on and promptly serves up a double to Jed Lowrie. Two runs are in but Drew is out at home on a crappy send by the third base coach. Thornton would serve up another single and another Red Sox run is on the board. Broadway closes it out but the damage is done.

Sox pounce back in the bottom of the 9th. It took Papelbon only 12 pitches to retire the Sox in order. Sox lose, 5-1 and are back in second place. Idiots.

WSI's Quest For the Final Table Update:  Final Table? More like final exam. A final exam which is failed.
