WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Thanks, Danks

August 6 vs. Detroit Tigers

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

John Danks glows helping the bullpen recover from last night. Thome does enough damage in the first!

Short Take: A nice, stress-free, 5-1 win!

Jim Thome's three run home run in the first inning off Justin Verlander was enough to back John Danks' 6 2/3 innings of excellent pitching tonight. After Danks' nine pitch first inning, the Tigers pretty much packed it in and watched our "Sux" cruise to a 5-1 win.

The Sox backed up handing Detroit a demoralizing extra inning loss with a stress free quick loss tonight. Danks kept the Tigers off the board until the seventh inning when Gary Sheffield knocked in the lone Tiger run with two outs to cut the Sox lead to 3-1. Danks was pulled by pitching coach Don Cooper and then tipped his cap to the 34,000+ in attendance who gave him a standing ovation as he walked off the field.

D.J. Carrasco and Octavio Dotel kept the Tigers scoreless only to have Alexei Ramirez provide some insurance runs in the eighth inning. A bases loaded two run single capped off the night setting up the ninth inning for Bobby Jenks.

Jenks recorded a scoreless frame in the 9th notching the Sox 63rd win of the year and sending the Tigers 8 1/2 behind our first place Chicago White Sox. Tomorrow, Javier Vazquez will look to contribute to a sweep of the Central rivals. The Tigers counter with Zack Miner who schooled the Sox two weekends ago in Detroit. Game time is at 7:11pm and televised on WCIU.

Quest For the Final Table Update:
Danks pitches very well, giving the bullpen some rest.
