Carlos Picks Up The Sox (Again)

July 30 at Minnesota Twins

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

Everyone with a hit! Floyd brings down the Twins for a night.

Short Take:   Carlos Quentin knocks a home run and bases clearing double to help bring down the Twins!

Where would the Sox be if it weren't for The Carlos Quentin?

For once everything went right in the Garbage Dome in Minnesota. The Sox got some clutch hits and the Sox pitching held up their end for the 8-3 win giving the Sox their 60th win of the season. More importantly, sending the Twins down 1 1/2 back of the still first place Chicago White Sox.

Carlos Quentin got the Sox on the board quickly off Twins starter Livan Hernandez. Quentin launched a solo home run in the first to give the Sox a 1-0 lead. After a sac fly in the third inning made it 2-0 Sox, Quentin came up with the bases loaded in the fourth inning. TCQ ripped a bases clearing double giving the good guys a 5-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Gavin Floyd was his early season self. Floyd notched his 11th victory of the season throwing 7 2/3 innings only giving up a run in the fifth. Alexei Ramirez got that and a few more back in the seventh. Ramirez hit a three run home run to tap out the offensive attack making the score 8-1.

Bobby Jenks came on in the ninth and the blowout sure made Bobby feel a bit too comfortable out there. After getting the lead off man for the first out of the inning, Jenks would give up a walk, single, double, and a ground out to make the game interesting. The Twins scored two times in the ninth, but for once, the Twins wouldn't be able to make some mircale comeback.

With the 8-3 win, the Sox now have spent 102 straight days in first place for the 2008 season. The Sox also increase their A.L. Central lead to 1 1/2 over the Twins. Tomorrow the Sox will try and split the four game series in Minnesota as John Danks will face off against Scott Baker. Game time is 7:10pm and is televised on Comcast SportsNet.

Quest For the Final Table Update:
Quentin comes through for the huge victory. Gavin Floyd turns in a more than fine outing.
