Now, Was THAT So Harden?

July 6th vs. Oakland Athletics

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Full House. Who DIDN'T contribute?

Short Take: Harden throws hard, Danks throws harder and gets the win--with a little help from his friends! Final Score: Sox 4, A's 3.

From the start, it looked like this was Johnny Danks’s game all the way. Three up, three down in the first. The Sox staked him to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the frame when, with two out, THE Carlos Quentin was safe on a high throw to first. That was followed by a Jermaine Dye single, and a walk by Jim Thome to load ‘em up. A walk to Joe Crede forced in a run and the Sox were up 1-zip. Nice start.

Second and third saw no scoring, and it started to look like a pitchers’ duel. But in the bottom of four with one out, Crede singled, Nick Swisher walked, and Alexei Ramirez singled, scoring Joe and sending Dirty 30 to third. Swish didn’t stay there long though, scoring on Dewayne Wise’s sac fly. After 4, 3-0 GoodGuys.

Stayed that way ‘til the top of seven when Danks ran into trouble. After he gave up two runs, and with the tying run on second, Octavio Dotel came on to put out the flames. After several anxious moments, he did so, stranding three Athletics. Sox got one back in the bottom of seven, courtesy of a double by Dewayne Wise and a sac fly by AJ Pierzynski. After seven, Sox 4, A’s 2.

Despite some scary moments, Matt Thornton and Scott Linebrink (who earned the save despite giving up a run in the ninth) locked this one down and gave John Danks a much deserved win.

Sox have a day off tomorrow, then they travel to Kansas City. Meanwhile, will SOMEBODY please beat the stinking Twins?

Quest For the Final Table Update:
Still on top of the deck--and looking good!

John Danks

No-hitter through five and an awesome performance. Being left off the all-star team is a joke.
