Walk Off Sweep!

July 2 vs. Cleveland Indians

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
The Sox keep fighting till the end to sweep the Indians! GO SOX!

Short Take: Second straight extra inning game, seventh straight win!

See ya Carsten Charles Sabathia!

If tonight was the last time our beloved Chicago White Sox would face C.C. Sabathia in an Indians uniform, it sure was a way to send him off with a bitter taste in his mouth. For a guy who has dominated our hitters over the years, the Sox were able to jump on him early and tagged him late in the game setting up a walk off home run off the bat of A.J. Pierzynski in extra innings for the 6-5 Sox win.

Before the Sox got up to bat they were already trailing 1-0. Usually against C.C., that's enough to call it a game. But tonight, as usual, the Sox never wilted. A.J. Pierzynski would hit his first of two home runs of the night to tie the game in the first. Two batters later, Jermaine Dye kept his hot streak going by launching a solo shot to give our Sox a 2-1 lead.

The Indians were able to even the score in a matter of minutes. Ryan Garko scored on a force out with runners on the corners to tie the game at two.

As our Sox have in this current win streak, they would retaliate the next inning. Pablo Ozuna led off with a double, then scored on Nick Swisher's RBI single to give our Sox a 3-2 lead.

The Indians didn't want to give way to our Sox tonight and behind Sabathia settling down, the Tribe took a 4-3 lead. In the fifth the Indians tied the game at three off a Jamey Carroll RBI triple scoring Grady Sizemore. In the seventh, Sizemore hit a solo homer off Contreras tilting the game in favor of Cleveland.

After Sox fans sang the seventh inning stretch, the Sox bats came out and rallied against the hard throwing Sabathia. Casey Blake threw a routine ground ball off the bat of Pablo Ozuna over the head of Ryan Garko at first base allowing Ozuna to advance to second. Two batters later Alexei Ramirez hit a ground ball to third which Blake couldn't handle putting runners on first and second for Brian Anderson. Everyone's favorite Sox bench player split the gap in center field to score the two runs giving the Sox a 5-4 lead.

The Sox carried the lead into the ninth inning. With Bobby Jenks unavailable for the night, Scott Linebrink would be called to close the sweep. Grady Sizemore wouldn't cooperate though. He launched a game tying solo home run to lead off the ninth to silence the Sox crowd and eventually sending the game into extras.

Credit Adam Russell with throwing a scoreless tenth inning setting up Pierzyski's third career walk off home run. The game winner was hit off the first pitch offering from Masa Kobayasi.

As the rain started to fall, the team celebrated at home plate just like they did last night as their record improved to 49-35 keeping their 2 1/2 game lead in the AL Central. The win also serves as the team's second straight sweep and seventh win in a row! Tomorrow, the tough Oakland A's come to the South Side with their excellent starting pitching. Javier Vazquez and Justin Duchscherer will open the four game series. Thursday's game time is at 7:11pm and it will be televised on WCIU.

Quest For the Final Table Update:
No game seems to be over lately until the final out.
