Just Enough Left in the Dank

July 1 vs. Cleveland Injuns

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
The Rabbit
Good old # 6 + 4 pulled a rabbit out of the hat in extra innings!

Short Take:John Danks pitches well enough to get the win, but gets a no decision, as the Cuban Missile saves the day in a total destruction of the weak Cleveland closer Joe Borowski.

The Cuban Missile Crisis, known as the October Crisis in Cuba, ranks as one of the major confrontations of the Cold War. The crisis climaxed when missile bases were found being built in Cuba, which ended in an agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union to dismantle the Cuban missiles. They say history sometimes repeats itself. Fast forwarding 46 years to 2008, something similar seems to be brewing. The Chicago White Sox have been building a bunch of missile bases of their own this year, launching them unexpectedly on their opponents. Unlike 46 years ago, the Cleveland Indians have no way of getting any help from anyone in dismantling our missiles and are headed for an October Crisis of their own, as our Sox could singlehandedly be the culprit of their playing golf after September with a stunning 8-3 record over the Central Division's cellar dwellers including tonight's 3-2 Sox 10-inning victory.

In the bottom of the second frame, our Sox took the lead when Jim Thome, Joe Crede, and Dirty 30 loaded the bases for our Cuban Missile, who launched a rocket to Grady Sizemore, scoring Thome. That 1-0 lead would last for a while...

until the 6th frame, when John Danks made his only mistake of the game--a homer to the Sox bullpen by Kelly Shoppach, who has replaced the injured Victor Martinez as the starting catcher. Danks pitched beautifully all night; but, he had to leave with a "No Decision." The Tribe took the lead in extras, as Matt Thornton gave up his first run in exactly a month, a round-tripper by Casey Blake. Good thing for Adam Russell, Ozzie called upon him to finish off the inning, allowing him to get his first major league victory!

Just when it looked like our ship was sunk tonight, one of the only players older than Jose Contreras came in for a save situation. After retiring the first two batters he faced, Joe Borowski stepped into a land mine named Alexei, who jacked one just over the LF wall to bring us back to where we started after regulation. After that, Ozzie made a Wise decision by allowing Dewayne to hit for Brian Anderson. The guy promptly singled, stole second, and came home with the winning run on a single by Orlando Cabrera.

I guess you could credit Borowski with a save tonight. Afterall, he did save our Sox when the opportunity to continue their winning streak (which now sits at six games) looked dim! Way to go, Joe! We all knew you could come through for us! Bring your brooms to Comiskey if you're going tomorrow night, Sox fans. Another sweep is in order. Contreras takes on CC Sabathia. Same time, same place, different channel (WCIU).

Quest For the Final Table Update:
After the Cuban Missile tied it up, Wise bluffed, and Cleveland folded. Are the Injuns even worthy of playing on the same field as our superior Palehose?
