Sox Lower the Broom

June 29th vs. Chicago Cubs

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Brian + Jim + Alexei + Mark equals fun at the clean and shiny ballpark.

Short Take: ďBest bullpen EVER?Ē Wow!

What a weekend! What a game! The energy level was amazing; you could almost feel it coming at you through the TV. Three home runs, some first-rate defense, Alexei Ramirez continues to amaze, Sweet Lou turns sour and earns an early exit, Mark Buehrle turns in another quality start, and that, accompanied by some stellar work by the aforementioned bullpen, added up to an exciting game and a White Sox Winner!

Didnít start out to be all that exciting, though. The first inning was over before most people could take their first sip of beer. In the second, the Cubs made some noise and so did we, but nothing came of it. The third passed uneventfully, but The Carlos Quentin started the scoring off with a blast to left in the fourth. The Cubs went down in order in the fifth (for the third time) and in the bottom of the frame, Nick Swisher walked, coming home on Brian Andersonís homer. AJ got hit by a pitch (what's new?), but TCQ made the last out.

On to the sixth. They went down in order, we went down in order. The Cubs got what would be their only run in the seventh and the game stayed close until the bottom of eight, when a Jim Thome blast made it 5-1. And thatís how it ended. Bobby Jenks got us all a little nervous in the ninth, but with first and third and nobody out, he got Jim Edmonds to hit into a double-play, which probably put a dent in all the new-found Cub fan love heís been feeling.

So the Sox maintain their lead and tomorrow, they welcome the Cleveland Indians. Gavin Floyd gets the start. Game time 7:11 Central.

Quest For the Final Table Update:
Still on top of the deck.
