WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Another Quality Start Wasted

May 31 at Tampa Bay Rays

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
8, 9, 2, 5
The Sox left eight runners on base, nine struck out, and Vazquez yielded a mere 2 ER on 5 H!

Short Take:   Vazquez pitches lights out, save a couple earned runs in seven innings, and strikes out ten, but the offense continued its anemic stretch.

After losing in the bottom of the ninth last night, thanks to a Cliff Floyd walk-off homerun, the Sox looked to get back to their winning ways and widen their lead in the A.L. Central, but knew it'd be tough, as they were facing the very tough left hander, Scott Kazmir. Even thought things started out looking pretty good for the Sox in the first, the end result was basically a carbon copy of last Saturday- a 2-0 Sox loss.

Javier Vazquez started off a little shaky in the bottom of the first, but got out of that jam unscathed. However, he wasn't as lucky in the third. Jason Bartlett led off the inning with a single to left, but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Akinori Iwamura. Carl Crawford then doubled, putting Iwamura 90' from home plate. It didn't take him long to dent the dish, though, as B.J. Upton's RBI grounder to second brought him home for the early 1-0 Tampa Bay lead. Just one inning later, Clifford Floyd struck again. He hit his second solo homerun in as many nights, giving the Rays a 2-0 lead.

As has been the case throughout a good chunk of the season so far, the White Sox just couldn't get anything going offensively. Other than getting Alexei Ramirez into scoring position in the top of the first, no runner reached scoring position again until the eighth! The Sox threatened in the top of the ninth, putting runners on first and second with only one out, but pinch-hitter, A.J. Pierzynski flew out to deep right, and Brian Anderson wasn't the Great American Hero, as he flew out to center to end the ballgame.

The Sox look to earn a split in the four-game series tomorrow afternoon at The Trop. Mark Buehrle (2-6) looks to right his own personal ship (and that of the team) in the Sunshine State against Andy Sonnanstine (6-3). The first pitch is set for 12:40p CDT and the game will be broadcast on CSN.

Quest For the Final Table Update:
Runners stranded, a poor offensive approach, and yet another quality start wasted....
