Buehrle Gets Beat Like a Drum

May 27 at Cleveland Indians

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Unfortunately the only tenant on the SS Palehose tonight was good old #44.

Short Take:Mark Buehrle continues to struggle on the mound, while the meat of our lineup couldn't cash-in with much-needed clutch hits in key situations, as our Sox dropped the middle game in this series at Progressive Field.

Among the most annoying personalities in MLB is the Cleveland Drum Beater. It is best when the Cleveland Indians are unable to produce rallies, as his drum remains silent. Unfortunately, the drum kept beating on tonight, as the Tribe's bats gave Mark Buehrle a major beating early and maintained a comfortable lead over our Sox to the tune of an 8-2 final.

Like the great rapper Bubba Sparxxx sang in one of his hit songs, it got ugly in here EARLY! Jamey sang an extra-early Christmas Carroll by doubling, advancing on an errant pitch by Buehrle, and scored on a sac fly by Ben Francisco. That was just a small burp compared to the major belch that Buehrle would give up that same inning--a grand slam hit by Franklin Gutierrez with Victor Martinez, Jhonny Peralta, and Ryan Garko aboard. Our Sox already had given up more runs than they did in last week's series against these Indians, trailing 5-0 after the first frame.

One couldn't tell by merely looking at tonight's box score; but, there was a sunny spot in tonight's game. The FOBA had something to cheer about in the third, as Brian Anderson got halfway around the bases when Garko couldn't hold on to a routine groundout due to a natural cause (the shiny center of our Solar System). Toby Hall doubled him in and was swiftly singled in by Orlando Cabrera. The sun changed quickly to darkness, as our Sox couldn't capitalize more in the inning, even though Aaron Laffey wasn't throwing the most dominating stuff at them, still trailing 5-2.

During the entire fifth frame, everyone watching this game on WCIU had to deal with constant sounds of a bird chirping. It did not leave its perch on the TV mic for the entire frame. I swear I wanted to reach into my TV screen and put a mini-muzzle on that thing! I also wanted to step into that screen and say a few things to the meat of our lineup that was unable to come up with clutch hits whenever the bottom of the lineup gave them opportunities. Even though we should really take the highs and lows of the marathon that is a Major League Baseball season, it can be hard to do that as a fan in the heat of the moment.

The Tribe polished this one off in the underside of the sixth, putting up a three spot. The loss drops our divisional lead over the Twinkies to two; however, there isn't much time to sulk about this one. Tomorrow's game starts before most second-shifters get up. Tune in to CSN tomorrow morning at 11:05 to watch the great Gavin Floyd make Jake Westbrook look like a fool.

Quest For the Final Table Update:
The Tribe flushed Mark Buehrle down the drain early in this one.
