Danks Dazzles, Gets No Run Support

May 24 vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Four Jokers
The top four in the lineup go a combined 0-for-15; can't win with that!

Short Take:   Danks falls victim to one bad inning and deserved better than the loss he got, but a lack of run support will get you nowhere.

Last night proved to be the game that snapped the Sox's eight game winning streak, but they came to the ballpark this afternoon eager to start another. Unfortunately, they started a different kind of streak, thanks to quiet bats. The end result was a 2-0 Sox loss.

John Danks was excellent through five, having surrendered just two hits- to Torii Hunter and Casey Kotchman- up to that point. The third hit he gave up was off the bat of Vladimir Guerrero, who took him deep to begin the sixth, giving the Angels a 1-0 lead. Torii Hunter followed with a double, chasing Danks from the game in favor of Octavio Dotel. After Dotel walked Juan Rivera, Casey Kotchman singled to left, scoring Hunter for the 2-0 lead and eventual winning score for the Angels.

Unfortunately for the White Sox, Jered Weaver went eight strong innings and they managed just three hits off of him, only one of which was of the extra-base variety. Consequently, runs can't and don't dent the plate, resulting in a shutout for the Sox.

The Sox look to salvage the last of the three-game series and homestand at U.S. Cellular Field tomorrow night in front of another national audience, as Jose Contreras (5-3) will face Los Angeles' John Lackey (1-0). The first pitch is set for 7:05 CDT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.

Quest For the Final Table Update:
Great starting pitching just isn't enough when the offense is anemic.
