Believe It or Not...!

April 26th vs Baltimore Orioles

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Anderson and Quentin

Pocket Rockets
BA was tonight's Ace in the hole.

Short Take: The FOBA can party today! Sox take the nightcap by a final of 6 to 5.

This may be one of those rare occasions when nobody argues about the pick to click. Is Brian Anderson The Greatest American Hero? Maybe not, but he sure was Saturday nightís Greatest Cellular Hero. We need to make sure he doesnít take that super suit off anytime soon.

Things got off to a good start with Mark Buehrle setting the Orioles down in order in the first. But in the top of the second, with two out, he gave up a single and a walk. Naturally, the next guy doubled. Mark struck out Eider Torres for the third out, but the Orioles led 2-0. The lead would be brief, however. In the bottom of the frame, A.J. led off with a single, followed by a walk to Carlos Quentin. This set the table for Joe Crede, but he struck out, which brought up Brian Anderson, who promptly doubled in A.J. CQ went to third and came around to score on a groundout by Pablo Ozuna. After two, the score was tied. The Sox untied it in the third, though. After Jim Thome grounded out, Paul Konerko worked a walk. A.J. lined out and here came CQ again. His double sent Paulie to third and an error by the shortstop brought him home. After three, Sox 3, Oís 2.

Ozuna opened the fourth with a single. Nick Swisher homered, making it 5-2 Good Guys and (unfortunately) knocking Steve Trachsel out of the game. Jim Johnson came on in relief. Another young pitcher with a career ERA over 5; thatís never good news for Sox fans. Meanwhile, Baltimore began to peck away at the lead. Millar hit a solo shot to lead off the sixth. In the top of the seventh, in came Boone Logan and out went the lead. After striking out the first batter, Logan gave up a single, triple, and double, and suddenly, the game was tied at five. Logan got the next guy, then Scott Linebrink came on to finish out the inning. The game remained knotted through the eighth, and in the top of the ninth, things got scary. Bobby Jenks came on and gave up a single to Ramon Hernandez. Brian Roberts popped up, but Hernandez stole second. Melvin Mora (who has quintuplets in case anybody missed hearing that mentioned) singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Nick Markakis was walked intentionally, and things got tense. Bases loaded, one out. However, Kevin Millar, who had homered earlier, grounded into a fielderís choice, Hernandez was out at home, Aubrey Huff came up next, he grounded out, and the threat was over.

Bottom of the ninth. Thome struck out and Konerko walked. Alexei Ramirez came on to run for Paulie. A.J. singled and Alexei went to second. CQ flied out for the second out, then Joe Crede walked, bringing up Anderson, who singled home Alexei. Game over. Sox and Orioles hook it up again on Sunday with Jose Contreras going against someone named Jeremy Guthrie. Game time 11:05 (thatís 1:05 in Chicago).
