WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Only Four Months or So Until Pitchers and Catchers Report

Sept. 30th vs Detroit Tigers

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Dead Duck
Pathetic performance. Again.

Short Take: Let’s See...It’s Sunday (check)...the Sox won the first two (check)…What did you think would happen?

Sox end season on a low note. Final score: Kittens 13, Sox 3. Gahhhhhhh!

This recap will be largely editorial in nature. IMO, the high point of this game took place in the first inning. Jim Thome got a hit and was pinch-run for, allowing the fans to shower him with adulation. Which they did. Unlike Cleveland fans, we understand appreciating a special player when he drops into our laps. Speaking of which, how about the news of AJ getting a contract extension? Good stuff! Meanwhile, DJ, for shame! When you and Hawk were trying to figure out the possible playoff tiebreaker ramifications, you didn’t know the status of the Diamondbacks? C’mon, you live here!! Slap!!!

So, recap. It was competitive until the top of the seventh. Score was 4-3 Detroit, going in. Contreras was hanging tough. Then—as has so sadly often been the case this year—we turned to our pitiful excuse for a bullpen. Mike Myers—don’t get me started!—couldn’t get anyone out. Mike MacDougal—maybe it’s a “Mike” thing—got someone out, but not before he gave up a bunch of hits, including a two-run homer. After seven, it was 11-3 Tigers. After eight, it was 12-3. After nine, it was 13-3.

So anyway. At long last, this agonizing nightmare of a season is over. And as I pointed out in the headline, it’s only four months or so until pitchers and catchers report.

And on a final note, it was once again my privilege to write these recaps as part of a very talented group of writers and as a member of the best fan site on the Internet. See you all back here next year!
