How Jose Got His Groove Back

September 19 vs. Kansas City Royals

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Beef Chuck Under Blade Streak
The team was inspired...for some reason, to win tonight. At least we're not in last place.

Short Take:   Sox play like it's 2005. Belt out 13 hits and 7 runs behind Jose's complete game shutout!

Jose Contreras is a successful, forty-something Cuban pitcher who has shown his age and fallen off the radar as one of the Sox ace pitchers since July 2006. He is persuaded by his colorful New York pitching coach to throw more strikes and fastballs to be more dominate in his starts in a poor year wearing the black and white. As he soaks his new found dominance, he goes 4-0 in his last five starts and now forces his boss, a powerful, outspoken baseball general manager, to take a new look at him as he rebuilds his team to contend the next baseball season.

Or, did Jose just up his trade value? That will remain to be seen as the final White Sox games of 2007 come to a end. Many young Sox players are trying out for a spot on next year's roster. And, some "old" Sox players are making their case to stay.

Tonight's 7-0 win over the Kansas City Royals puts the Sox temporarily out of last place in the AL Central standings, with four more games left with the Royals to duke it out for fourth place.

Jim Thome launched career home runs 501 and 502 in tonight's smack down backing Jose's complete game. Contreras scattered five hits and stuck out six hapless Royal hitters. Amazingly, Contreras wins his 10th game of the year - thats one more than Mark Buehrle, doesn't sound right does it?

Tomorrow will be the final game in KC this year. Jon Garland will try and pick up his 10th victory of the year when he goes against that mental case Zack Greinke tomorrow afternoon at 1:10pm.

Back to the Grind Update:
Thome goes deep twice, Uribe hits his 20th jack of the season. Podsednik doesn't feel like grinding tonight, he was the only one in the lineup without a hit.
