WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

An ode to 2007 (final chapter)

September 17 at Kansas City Royals

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Choice Filet
Ten runs in a frame
will earn this nice treat.
Even vegans will swoon
for this fine piece of meat.

Short Take:
There once was a team named the White Sox.
Who bumbled around like a drunk ox
'07 did suck
They acted the schmuck
Will next year bring joy to the press box?

The month is September,
nearly six months gone by
since the season first started,
since things all went awry.

The team showed much promise
when the campaign began
now they rot in the cellar
with an old Christmas ham.

But let us not dwell
on past failure and shame.
There's a ballgame tonight,
a fresh chance to earn fame.

Will new legends be forged?
Will new heros be born?
Or will the Sox go down meekly
like the moon in the morn?

The Royals struck first,
an Alex Gordon HR.
They had taken the lead,
two-zero so far.

Zeros 'til the fifth,
both teams would record
and then the Sox bats
would reap the reward.

Richar led the charge
with a homer to center.
Cintron then singled
and Owens followed his mentor
A single of his own
moved wee Alex to third,
then Owens swiped second
S-say what? S-say word.
Fields hit a double
to bring them both home.
D Erstad grounded out,
to third, Fields did roam
Konerko was walked,
his bat, it was feared
But Dye swung his bat,
a hit most revered.
A three run dinger,
the bats were on fire.
Davies was done,
off to retire.
AJ then singles,
then quickly to second
A wild pitch it was,
crappy pitching, I reckon.
Uribe doubles deep,
AJ crosses the plate
To third goes Uribe
on a pitch not so great.
Richar was back up,
he had started this swarm
A triple to right center
Juan scores, feeling warm.
Cintron hits a sac fly,
Richar plates a run.
Owens singles again
yet the Sox were not done.
Fields hits a home run,
the third of the inning.
Eleven to two now the score,
it was a blowout, a killing.
Erstad grounds out,
the inning was over
Ten hits in the frame
it was crimson and clover.

'twas not just the bats
that were performing so well.
A bearded Javy Vazquez
was giving them Hell.

Eight strong he went,
just two runs on five hits.
No walks and 13 Ks
threw the Royals into fits.

Phillips relieved him,
a young horse most strong
He gave up a homer
but sounded the closing gong.

A win for the Sox!
They are out of the cellar!
Watch out, Tampa Bay,
the Sox are on your propeller!

Thus draws to a close
my last report of the season.
A wild ride, it was,
despensing knowledge and reason.

16 mighty tomes
were penned by my hand.
All of them great,
none of them bland.

In with some rhymes,
and out with some others.
Catch you next season,
my Sox sisters and brothers!

Back to the Grind Update:

Home runs, steals, hit-and-runs,
this game truly had it all.
Where was this all season?
For it is too late in the fall.
