Sweep 'Em Up Before We Go-Go!

August 5 at Detroit Tigers

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Ground Round
Okay, it wasn't sirloin, but then again, it wasn't chuck either!

Short Take: Ta-ta, Tata! Thanks for dropping by!

Despite all the rally-killing double plays, a stellar pitching performance by Gavin Floyd enabled the Sox to sweep the Kittens. Final score: Sox 3, Tigers 1.

Okay, here we go. First inning, Sox go 1-2-3, but in the bottom of the frame, Floyd gets the first two of what will be six total strikeouts. With one out in the second, AJ hits a ground-rule double and comes home on a double by Josh Fields. Unfortunately rally-killer #1 ends the threat. But the Tigers fail to score in the bottom of the frame, so after two, Sox 1, Tiggers zip.

Top of three. A triple and two walks load the bases with 1 out, but Jim Thome hits into rally-killer #2. Bottom of three, a mini-threat by the Tigers goes for naught. Not much happens in the fourth, but then comes the top of the fifth. Uribe strikes out, but Danny Richar walks. Then Jerry Owens doubles, scoring Richar and Darin Erstad doubles, scoring Owens. Looks like the start of a big inning, but no. Tigers walk Thome to get to Paulie, hoping he’ll hit into a double play. Which he does. Rally-killer #3 right there, but at least we score two. After five, Sox 3, Bad Guys 0.

Innings #6 and 7 are uneventful. Then in the top of eight, with one out, AJ walks. (Well actually, he walked twice.) This sets the stage for Josh Fields, who hits into rally-killer #4. But who’s counting? Looks like we might actually win this game. Whoops, not so fast. Magglio Ordonez—who really should cut that mop!—hits a two-out solo homer.

Ninth inning. Hang on to your hats. Pods leads off and is HBP. Uribe sacs him to second. And Richar promptly hits into rally-killer #5. But on comes Bad Bobby Jenks. 1-2-3, and sweet sweep!

After a day off tomorrow, the Cleveland Indians come in to take their turn at getting swept. Let’s go, go-go White Sox!!

Back to the Grind Update:
The BULLPEN grinded?!? Yikes, whod'a thunk it?

Don't recognize the picture, but it's gotta be Gavin Floyd!

Great outing in a game that shouldn't have been as close as it was.
