Yanks dig the long ball

August 1 at New York Yankees

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Lamb Shoulder Neck Slices
Yanks going for the kill!

Short Take: Danks, Buckvich, and Haeger surrender five home runs to Yankee hitters as they take this one 8-1.

Ugh. Where to start? Well, we had a lead tonight. Briefly.

Scott Podsednik drove in A.J. Pierzynski with two outs in the second inning with a triple to give our Sox a 1-0 lead. That wouldn't last though. John Danks gave it right back and then some in the bottom half of the inning. Jorge Posada hit a two run home run, and Robinson Cano launched a solo shot to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.

They added a three more in the fourth. Cano led off the inning with another home run, and Shelly Duncan (who?) hit a two run bomb making it 6-1. The laugh's kept on coming with solo shots by the Yankees in the seventh by Derek Jeter and in the eighth by Jorge Posada. When the dust settled the Yankees took a 8-1 lead to the ninth which was no problem for Brian Bruney who retired the Sox bats 1-2-3.

All in all, another pathetic showing by the Sox. They left eight men on and went through seven different pitchers tonight. The Sox fall to 48-59 now on this first day of August. The final game of the year against the Yankees is tomorrow afternoon at 12:05pm. Jon Garland will try and lock up his ninth win of the year.

No grinding for losers tonight.
