Another Pizza, Another Win!

June 27 at Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Meat topping for the pizza the Sox got the Devil Rays fans.

Short Take: Holy Hell! A 3-game winning streak!

Where was all this four weeks ago?

The Sox finally woke up this week after being swept by the Cubs, but the question is...does it matter? Probably not. Yes, it's nice to start winning again and at least its fun to watch the team, for this week so far. With tonight's 5-3 win over the Devil Rays, it secures their first series win since their May series against the A's and puts them 12 games out of first... HOO-RAY!

Sox fans got a bit of good news early this morning as word spread that tonight's starter Mark Buehrle may not be making his final start in a White Sox uniform. Rumors spread that he was "likely" to sign a contract extension to stay on the South Side. That remains to be seen but it was obvious Buehrle didn't have his mind on the game tonight. The Devil Rays tallied one run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, but they could've had more. The Rays' left a total of twelve men on base, ten while Buehrle was pitching. Needless to say, this could've easily been a Sox loss.

Aside from another ten strikeout night for Sox hitters, they did their job. Coming back with a late game rally to pick up Buehrle uping his record to 5-4 and coming through with clutch hits in the seventh and eighth innings.

Josh Fields made it a 3-1 deficit with a RBI single scoring Jim Thome and moving A.J. Pierzynski to third base. Two batters later, Alex Cintron hit a bloop single to score A.J. putting the Sox down 3-2. The game was broke open when the Sox batted in the eighth. Our little achievers scored three times highlighted by a lead off triple by Scott Podsednik, Alex Gonzalez single, Jim Thome single, and then a Paul Konerko double. When the dust settled, the Sox came away with a 5-3 lead.

The Sox will look to...gasp...sweep the Devil Rays in Tampa tomorrow. But, dont hold your breath. Javier Vazquez will be pitching for our Sox, and Scott Kazmir will try and prevent such a thing from happening for the Rays. Game time is 6:10pm and televised on Comcast SportsNet.

Back to the Grind Update:
Buehrle worked for it all night, leaving Rays' runners on base through his seven innings, keeping the Sox in the game.
