WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Just Another Day At The Office

June 13 at Philadelphia Phillies

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Lamb chops
Can you consider it a meltdown when you're facing the greatest player alive?

Short Take:   Some guy named Aaron Rowand hits a grand slam to lift the Phillies to a sweep of our Sox.

Ten years ago the Phillies pulled off a three game sweep of our Sox in Philly en route to one of the many disapointing seasons the White Sox have expierenced over the years. Much like '97, the 2007 season is quickly climbing the ranks of bad years on the South Side as the Sox drop yet another game to the Phillies, this time 8-4, in this horrid June month.

The Sox and Phillies traded tallies through the first two innings leaving a 2-2 tie heading into the third inning. The Sox would break that tie when Alex Cintron and Jim Thome led off the inning with singles putting runners on the corners for Jermaine Dye to only ground into a double play to score Cintron and end any sort of a big inning. Still, the Sox held a 3-2 lead until the sixth inning.

But, "the greatest baseball player of all time" would have none of it. With Jayson Werth on third base, "He's gone, get over it" would mammothly ground out to score the tying run. But, He still wasn't through. Amazingly, He batted in the seventh inning. The Sox Matt Thorton was clinging onto a 4-3 Philly lead, becuase he knew now there was no chance of making it off the field alive when he looked at a two out bases loaded situation and "The Mighty" coming up to bat. Somehow, someway, Thorton worked the count 0-2. All Matt needed was one strike to tell a modern day David vs. Galith story. But alas, "the greatest baseball player ever, ever" launched a air strike into the skies clearing the bases for the most amazing Grand Slam to have ever been hit. The Phillies led 8-4, the final two innings should not have even been played. ;

Even though it happend against our Sox, you will tell your children, and your children's children, and hopefully with modern medicine, your children's children's children of this great tale becuase hearing it first hand will only do it justice.

The Sox will now try and somehow play baseball Friday night after their much needed offday tomorrow. Still probably feeling the effects of this game, Jon Garland will try and get the Sox in the win column against the Pittsburgh Pirates. One can only hope. Gametime on Friday is 6:05pm on Comcast Sports Net.

Sleep well, Sox fans.
