April 29...Oh, Hell!!

April 29 vs. Los Angeles Angels

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
cheap beef stew meat
tough, and not particularly flavorful

Short Take: They won. We lost. Pretty straightforward, wouldn't you say?

From time to time, there has been speculation on this board about whether or not Sox players come on and check out what the fans are saying. I have no idea if they do or don’t, but if any of you guys are actually reading this, then maybe you should STOP reading it and go out and get in some extra batting practice. Or something. Meanwhile, we lose the series. The Angels win 5-2, and the Sox are still 0-fer-Sunday in 2007.

Unfortunately—or rather, fortunately, I guess—I was unable to watch very much of this game because of some kitchen emergencies involving broken wine bottles and a big ol’ mess. But I’ll do my best to summarize. Shouldn’t be hard. First inning: no runs, no hits, no errors. Second verse, same as the first: no runs, no hits, no errors. Bottom three: Sox got two runs. Top four: So did they. Angels added another run in the top of the fifth, and after five, it was Angels 3, Sox 2. But not to worry. Plenty of time left.

After six: Angels 3, Sox 2; after seven: Angels 3, Sox 2; after eight, Angels 3, Sox 2. Going into the ninth, there was still a feeling of optimism in the air. After all, we were only down by one. And that may have held true if we were not forced to abide by that annoying baseball rule that states we must allow the opposing team to bat in the top of the inning. But we were, they did, and going into the bottom of the frame, it was Angels 5, Sox 2. I really wish I could report an exciting come-from-behind victory, but nope. Final 5-2 Angels.

Back to the Grind Update:
Nice catch by Ryan—or is that Mike?—Sweeney, plus a heads-up appeal by AJ that resulted in a double play.
