Easy as A-B-C...

April 23 at Kansas City Royals

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Alphabet soup with big chunks of sirloin
It's elementary!

Short Take: Konerko finds his form as the Sox de-throne the Royals

Another day, another game of White Sox baseball! Buehrle was looking to follow up his no-hitter with another solid performance. Celebrations of that order were not to be as a second inning, two out double by German ended the hitless streak. Doesn't matter much though as Buck grounded out to strand the baserunner. Even though the Sox offense wasn't getting it done against Meche, Buehrle was keeping the team in it. Finally in the fifth, the first runs of the games were scored ...but they didn't belong to the Sox. German gets on base again with a triple and Buck follows up with a HR to deep left. Hope was renewed in the sixth as a slugger dressed in a Paul Konerko costume hit a towering, two-out fly ball that just kept carrying. Into the grass beyond the fence it went and just like that, the game was tied. Just as quickly as the game was tied, the Royals were back in the lead. Kaptain Sweeney hits a sac fly to left in the very next frame to give them a 3-2 edge. Lucky for Buehrle, he escape the inning without further damage as he wasn't looking as sharp as earlier in the game. Meche gives up a leadoff single to Crede in the seventh but Mackowiak advances him to second before Uribe flies out. Nobody grinds out runs like Tony Erstad and this inning is no exception as he singles up the middle to plate Crede. Once again, the game is tied. Paulie makes a circus catch in foul territory to help Buehrle shut the Royals down in the seventh, 1-2-3. Quite a different inning for Buehrle when compared to the sixth. Recent struggles in Konerko's bat seem to have gone the way of the dodo as he hits another two-run homer in the eight. Sox lead, 5-3! The Sox send three pitchers to the mound in the bottom of the inning but despite some walks, the Royals can only push one across. Underwriters recommend insurance and the Sox pick some up in the 9th with a Thome RBI single and a Konerko sac fly. Victory was within reach but the Royals put runners on the corners with one out in the ninth. Wasted is this chance as DeJesus grounds into a double play to end the game and give the Sox the win! Xylophone is a word that starts with X. Yet another strong outing by Buehrle and yet another W in the win column. Zip up the body bag on the Royals, compliments of Coroner Konerko.

Back to the Grind Update:
The whole offense. Everyone except LF got a hit. Clutch, two-out hitting, sacrifices and only 3 Ks.
