WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

September 21st vs. Seattle Mariners

How was the trophy defended today?

It wasn't

Short Take: Our Sox look listless once again as the opportunities to salvage the season dwindle, leaving fans with an empty feeling. Javier Vazquez and the Palehose go down without a fight tonight against Seattle 9-0.

To start off the final home series of the year, the improved Javier Vazquez took the mound to face the Seattle Mariners. Though he pitched decently once again, he couldn't quite silence the Seattle bats later on in the outing, and our beloved Palehose couldn't string together an offense once again, adding another tally to the "loss" column, being shut out 9-0 in the process.

The game was close for most of the game, as Seattle was only able to muster single runs in the second and seventh innings. Chris Snelling scored on an error by Juan Uribe in the second, while Raul Ibanez homered to lead off the seventh. Open, floodgates. Seattle would score seven more runs in the last two innings to put this one out of reach. To close the line on Vazquez, he allowed the bases to be loaded in the eighth, leading to three runs. After being pulled when Javy Lopez scored, Neal Cotts allowed two more runs to score (both charged to Vazquez) when Paul Konerko couldn't get a liner from Ibanez, scoring both Adrian Beltre and Ichiro Suzuki. The scoring closed as Beltre hit a grand slam with Lopez, Suzuki, and Willie Bloomquist on board.

Once again, the Sox offense could do very little, mustering five hits, not looking very organized. Hopefully they can pull it off tomorrow in the final night game of the season at Comiskey Park. Hopefully the crowd will be able to watch the postgame firework show in happiness, as Jose Contreras takes the mound. Gametime is the usual 7:35 Chicago start time and can be seen on Comcast Sports Net Chicago.

Ozzieball Update:
This team has gone further and further away from playing Ozzieball.
