Nice Rout, May We See Another Please?

September 19 vs. Detroit Tigers

How was the trophy defended today?
Four home runs with just two hits given up usually gets it done.

Short Take: The Sox wallop four homers and Freddy Garcia throws a dandy one-hitter to shut down the Tigers.

In a season marked by inconsistency, it was no surprise that the White Sox followed a brutal loss with a rampaging win, destroying the Tigers 7-0 on the back of a one-hit masterpiece by Freddy Garcia.

Garcia seems to pitch best when his back is to the wall. With the Tigers threatening to knock the southsiders out of playoff contention, Freddy pitched a gem. He gave up just one hit over eight innings and struck out five. The Tigers were clearly outmatched this night.

On the offensive side, the Sox delivered an aerial assault of four home runs to put this game away. In the fourth inning, Jermaine Dye was hit by pitcher Justin Verlander. Jim Thome followed with a walk and Paul Konerko singled. This set the stage for a grand slam by A.J. Pierzynski and the rout was on.

In the fifth inning, Dye and Thome knocked Verlander out of the game with a solo home run each. In the seventh inning, it was Tadahito Iguchiís turn to go longball, making it 7-0.

Bobby Jenks struck out the side in the ninth inning to put the finishing touch on this romp, and secure Garciaís 15th win of the season.

Hopefully Jon Garland and the boys can continue this one-game hot streak (itís come to that!). Garland (17-5, 4.30) gets the ball on Wednesdayís rubber match and will face RHP Jeremy Bonderman (12-8, 4.14). Game time is 7:05pm Central. Letís keep it going, you White Sox!
