WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

September 8 vs. Cleveland Indians

How was the trophy defended today?
A.J. gives us some 'ol '05 walk-off magic!

Short Take:  Jenks blows it, A.J. saves it in a walk off home run in the 9th for a thrilling White Sox win!

The game seemed like a sure-fire "W." The Sox took a 5-4 lead in the ninth with Bobby Jenks coming in for the save, but, Jenks wasn't able to hold the lead. In his second straight blown save, the Sox found themselves in a 6-5 hole going into the ninth. But never fear! A.J. Pierzynski didn't let the "experts" predicted A.L. Central Champions to spoil Half-Way to St. Patrick's Day at The Cell!

It didn't start off well for our Sox. Freddy Garcia escaped un-harmed in the first inning after leaving two on the bases. In the third Grady Sizemore led off with a triple and scored on a Ryan Garko single making it 1-0 Indians. The Sox were able to tie the game in the fourth. After three straight singles by Jermaine Dye, Jim Thome, and Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski would drive in his first big run of the night with a single to left field.

Freddy's inept ability to hold runners on base cost him in the fifth when the Indians took a 2-1 lead. Grady Sizemore (again) walked and stole second and third base, then scored two batters later on a Victor Martinez ground out. The Sox kept fighting though. Juan Uribe hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 2-2. Later in the fith, the Sox took a 3-2 lead on a Paul Konerko RBI single scoring Alex Cintron.

The Sox would add another run in the sixth to add to their lead to make it 4-2. The Indians made it a bit closer on a Victor Martinez RBI single making it a 4-3 Sox lead. But, all seemed right when the Sox added an insurance run in the eighth on a Alex Cintron RBI single scoring Juan Uribe making a 5-3 Sox lead with Bobby Jenks coming in the ninth.

Bobby's curve ball and breaking ball wasn't working tonight as the Indians put up the fastest three spot in the history of the game off four straight doubles off the bats of Casey Blake, Andy Marte, Grady Sizemore, and Jason Michaels. Matt Thorton was able to come on and keep the Indians lead at 6-5 setting up the bottom of the ninth.

Paul Konerko led off with a single and while Tadahito Iguchi came on to pinch run, he wasn't needed. A.J. Pierzynski attempted a bunt on his first pitch, swung and missed on the second, and on the third launched a bomb to the center field seats flipping his bat and throwing one arm and one finger in the air and he left the box and headed toward first base in his victory march!

While a stunned Indians team stormed off the field, a Sox team celebrated at home plate like they did June 18,2005 when A.J. hit a walk off home run against the Dodgers. The 7-6 win moves the Sox within 4.5 games of first place and .5 out of the Wild Card lead. Tomorrow, the Sox will try and keep the momentium going as new club ace Jon Garland will storm the mound against Indians starter Fausto Carmona. Gametime is the usual Saturday 6:05pm start. It will be televised on WGN.
