Mama Told Me There'll be Days Like This

August 16th vs. Kansas City Royals

How was the trophy defended today?

It wasn't

Short Take: In one of the most lackluster performances in the last couple of years, Jose Contreras and our beloved Palehose were easily defeated by the worst team in the league 10-4.

Van Morrison warned us in a song that there'll be days like this; but, I'm sure Mama didn't tell him they'd be this bad for our Palehose! One bad inning spelled disaster, as Jose Contreras and the Sox lost a painful game to the Kansas City Royals 10-4.

Sox killer Mark Grudzielanek started things off in the third inning hitting a three-run homer. After back-to-back doubles by Emil Brown and Reggie Sanders (scoring Brown), Ryan Shealy matched Grudzielanek with a round-tripper of his own, closing the scoring for the inning. Sox fans already were restless, as Kansas City had scored six runs in the inning. Things were clicking on all cylinders the next inning, as Grudzielanek got another RBI (Joey Gathright), making it 7-0 after 4 innings. Three more runs were given up by Neal Cotts, who has been struggling, in the eighth inning, as Angel Berroa and Gathright scored on a single by David DeJesus, who scored on a double by Mark Teahen. The Royals had built up a 10-0 lead, which held until the bottom of the 9th.

To start the bottom of the nineth, Paul Konerko and AJ Pierzynski both singled. One batter later, Ross Gload walked the bases loaded for Alex Cintron, who hit a grand slam to try to make up for his ineffective fielding tonight. The home run at least gave those who stayed something to clap for; however, the Sox were unable to make up for that third inning.

Hopefully our DEFENDING WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS are so embarrassed that they come out and destroy the Royals tomorrow in a huge game before heading to Minnesota this weekend. Mark Buehrle has an opportunity to get his first win since June 27th. Here's hoping that he comes out throwing the heat, and we're talking about a White Sox winner tomorrow afternoon. Gametime is at 1:05 pm and can be seen on Comcast Sports Net.

Ozzieball Update:
Ozzieball might've been present had 1/3 of the lineup not been bench players.
