WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Thank You, Jays; May We Have Another?

August 5th at Toronto Blue Jays

How was the trophy defended today?
Stelllar Pitching! Smallball! We Got It Done, Now Let's Keep It Up!

Short Take: Javy Vazquez redeems himself and the Sox get it done!

This game had it all. Pitching—especially starting pitching—and clutch hitting, as the Good Guys win it 7-1.

Sox got off to a great start as Scott Podsednik walked, went to second on a wild pitch, and then stole third. So we had a runner on third with no one out. Unfortunately, Pods was thrown out when Tadahito Iguchi grounded into a fielder’s choice. But the Sox rebounded. Jim Thome walked, sending Tad to second, and a single by Paul Konerko scored the first run, and it was 1-0 Sox. The score stayed that way until the top of the third. Smallball—Iguchi, Thome, Konerko, Dye. When the smoke cleared, it was Sox 3, Jays zip.

And that’s where it stayed until the top of the fifth inning. Pods—the leadoff hitter—narrowly missed a home run. But then Gooch was hit by a pitch, bringing Big Jim to the plate. Thome’s single moved Gooch to third, Paulie’s single scored him. And then a double by Jermaine Dye scored Thome and a sacrifice by A.J. Pierzynski scored Paulie. After 4.5, Sox were up 6-0.

When Javy came out to start the fifth, he was nursing a no-hitter. Unfortunately, the first batter he had to face was Troy Glaus. BOOM! 6-1. This was followed by a Lyle Overbay single to center. But that was it for the Blue Jays. Some Ozzieball by the Sox in the top of the sixth with two out—a double by Anderson, a walk by Iguchi, a walk by Thome, and a walk by Paulie scored BA, and it was 7-1.

And that’s where it ended. However, I must once again pay tribute to expatriate Sox fans. I first heard the “Pau-LEE, Pau-LEE” chants in the fifth. (I may be crazy, but I thought I recognized ChiSoxFanatic’s and Baby Fisk’s voices.) And will someone please explain what is up with all that “5-4-3-2-1” crap? Finally, kudos to whoever raised the Sox World Series Champs banner in the top of nine. You rule!

So, let’s have another. How about tomorrow, once again versus the Blue Jays? Game time 12:05 Central.

Ozzieball Update:
They had it all. Just like Bogey and Bacall.
