Strange game, Perfect win!

June 10 vs Cleveland Indians

How was the trophy defended today?
Buehrle righted himself going 8+; Sox pull through in the end '05 style!

Short Take:  Sox pull off yet another comeback win!

Indians catcher Victor Martinez ALMOST single handedly beat our defending world champs in this afternoons thriller on the South Side, but, in what proved to be a strange game where there were two different Sox lineups started and ended the game, our boys would pull off the 4-3 comeback win against the Tribe!

The last time the Sox beat the Indians with C.C. Sabathia starting was on opening day, he wouldn't get the win, but the Sox pulled out a win just like today. The Indians got a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning when Victor Martinez hit a RBI single during a shakey first inning for Mark, he would leave the bases loaded though without anymore damage. The game remained 1-0 until Martinez made it 2-0 on a solo home run in the sixth inning.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Sox started the comeback...with no out and the bases loaded, Paul Konerko flexed his muceles and grounded into a double play scoring Pablo Ozuna from third making it a 2-1 Indians lead. Next batter Jermaine Dye was intentionally walked to get to Alex Cintron. There were no heroics for Alex today... he grounded out to end the inning and threat. The Sox had another opportunity to break the game open in the seventh with two outs and the bases loaded for Jim Thome. But, Thome wouldn't provide any fireworks, he grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning.

The Sox were finally able to tie the game in the eighth. With runners on first and third Scott Podsednik came on to pinch hit for Juan Uribe and came through with a RBI single to left center field to tie the game 2-2. That moved pinch hitter and go-ahead run A.J. Pierzynski to third base but pinch hitter (for Brian Anderson) Rob Mackowiak would pop out to end the inning.

The game stayed 2-2 and headed into extra innings with Bobby Jenks throwing a scoreless ninth inning and Rafel Bentacourt throwing a scoreless ninth by escaping it with Thome just missing a game ending home run to right center flying out to Grady Sizemore at the wall.

Victor Martinez stamped his name on this game once more in the eleventh. Off Matt Thorton, Martinez launched a no doubt solo shot to give the Indians a 3-2 lead. But that lead wouldn't last long with Bob Wickman coming on to save the game in the bottom half.

The inning started off with a single by A.J. Pierzysnki and being moved over on a sac bunt by Scott Podsednik. The Sox would tie the game on a single to right field by Rob Mackowiak. With the crowd in a frenzy, Pablo Ozuna smacked a single to right field. Ozuna, out of the box, threw his hands in the air thinking it was the game winner, but Casey Blake threw a stike to home plate nailing Rob Mackowiak for the second out of the inning but allowing Ozuna to second base. Never fear, next batter Tadahito Iguchi hit a line drive down the first base line scoring Ozuna for the 4-3 White Sox winner!

The Sox sure have induced many heart-stopping moments this week but what can't get loss in today's game was Buehrle's 8+ innings only giving up two runs and six hits. The Sox record now moves to 38-23 and tomorrow, the Sox go for the sweep when Freddy Garcia will go up against Jake Westbrook on a Sunday 7:05 night game on ESPN.
