Take That Cleveland!

May 29 at Cleveland Indians

How was the trophy defended today?
Vazquez anything but shakey, Sox bats POUND Indians pitching.

Short Take:  Jim Thome clubs two home runs to quiet the boo birds in Cleveland as Sox have their way with the Indians in a 11-0 win.

If you were to look at this four game series in early April you would have thought that this was going to a big set against the team our Sox would be fighting for the A.L. Central crown with. But, to this day Cleveland hasn't been living up to the "experts" predictons and the Sox have been fighting it out with the surprising Detriot Tigers. Today's 11-0 smack around of the Indians only sinks the Tribe lower in the standings!

The Sox came out swinging against Indian's starter Cliff Lee. Jim Thome shut the booing crowd up by hitting a long two run home run to right field to give the Sox a quick 2-0 lead. Later in the first, Joe Crede singled Paul Konerko in on a short ground ball to left field that Joey Cora sent Paulie on. If it wasn't for the short hop at the plate, Konerko would've been a dead goose, but thanks to the hop, Konerko scored and the Sox had a 3-0 lead. Next batter Juan Uribe hit a infield single to second base that Ronnie Belliard could not make the play on to score Jermaine Dye making it a 4-0 Sox lead.

While Javier Vazquez was sharp this Memorial Day afternoon, the Sox bats stayed hot throughout the game. In the third, Paul Konerko hit a solo home run to give the Pale Hose a 5-0 lead. Later in the third Juan Uribe hit a two run home run to end Cliff Lee's awful afternoon by giving the Sox a 7-0 lead.

The Sox added another run in the fifth on a Joe Crede sac fly, in the sixth Jim Thome clubbed another two run home run giving the Sox a 10-0 lead.

Even with the large lead, Vazquez didn't lose focus. Javier would last six innings while only giving up two hits and uping his record to 6-3. Neal Cotts and Jeff Nelson finished off the Tribe for the final three innings and the Sox end up gaining a game on the Tigers with today's 11-0 win!

The Sox now stand 1 1/2 out of first place with their now 33-17 record. Tomorrow is a opening night rematch. Mark Buehrle and C.C. Sabathia will go at it with tomorrow's 6:05pm start. The game can be seen on WCIU and nationally on ESPN.

Ozzieball Update:
Home runs, sac flys, infield singles and base hits all accounted for runs!
