WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

For Old Times Sake

May 12 at Minnesota

How was the trophy defended today?

Short Take:  A old fashion Twins beating of the Sox as Santana finds his groove.

Johan Santana must wake up every morning when he faces the Sox and has to feel good. Did anyone really think he was going to be sub-par all season? Give me a break. Besides Santana reverting to form, Jon Garland also looked like the old-timey Jon only going 5 1/3 innings while giving up seven earned runs in the Sox 10-1 smackaround.

The Twins got to Garland early and too often. In the second inning Justin Morneau hit a two run homer to give the Twins an early lead. The Twins added to their lead in the fourth. After three straight singles, Juan Castro hit an RBI single, two batters later Luis Castillo knocked two more in with another single with the bases loaded. The Twins took a 5-0 lead after four.

While Garland was getting smoked by the Twins less than stellar offense, Johan Santana was his usuall Sox killing self. Santana scattered five hits through seven innings. The lone run the Sox could muster would be off a Paul Konerko home run in the seventh. Hoo-ray!

The Twins never let up tonight and gave their fans something to cheer about throughout the game. There was never even a mild threat late in the game with the bench coming in the late innings while the bullpen was doing a crappy job to keep the game respectful.

A 10-1 beatdown was handed down by the Twins to start this four game series and this seven game dome tour. Tomorrow, Javier Vazquez (4-1 2.88ERA) will try and right the ship against Brad Radke (3-4 7.75ERA) Game time is 6:10pm and it will be seen on WGN.
