Pot Smoking near Cell leads Cubune's Sox playoff coverage!

filed by George Bova

October 3. 2005

The longest-running thread in the six-year history of White Sox Interactive involves predicting what sort of negative spin the editors of the Chicago Tribune will use to belittle the Sox and the team's fans.  The thread has been running all summer, now in its third edition, and contains over 1100 posts.  Not even the Cubune's own message boards can come anywhere close to replicating that sort of traffic.  Maybe that's why so many of their writers and staffers regularly visit WSI?  There are new submissions every single day.

While you might expect most of the submissions are over the top, once in a while the spoof headlines are eerily similar to the ones actually chosen by the Cubune's editors in the next day's newspaper.  It's strange how the Cubune's hired shills can maintain the fiction that they are unbiased in their coverage of the Sox when Sox Fans are perfectly capable of accurately predicting what biased headlines will be published.

And then there are days like this morning's Cubune that simply leave all of us dumbfounded...

The Sox begin their playoff quest tomorrow, October 4 at Sox Park.  It's the first time they've reached the post-season in five seasons.  It comes at the conclusion of a 99-win season that had the Sox in first-place for all six months and 162 games played.  And it's a championship quest unquenched since 1917 -- the last time any team from Chicago won the World Series, also from the South Side.

How does the Cubune kick-off their playoff coverage?  Talking about pot smoking near Sox Park on page 1 of the newspaper.  It's so over the top, nobody -- not in 1100 posts -- ever bothered to think it up.  It's simply too outrageous to be believed.  But it's the plain truth.

A tip of the cap to Cubune editor Ann Marie Lipinski and the crack corps of editors who chose to run a story that had absolutely nothing to do with the playoffs being held at Sox Park.  We're guessing the pot smoking was only discovered by her and the Cubune reporters this past weekend, right?  No wonder it was chosen to be the October 3 edition's page 1 main feature, right?

Must catch that playoff fever, right Ann Marie?

No bias at the Cubune, right Ann Marie?

No agenda besides reporting the news, right Ann Marie?

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
